Dr. Kee Boon Pin graduated with Bachelor of Biomedical Science degree in 2007 and Doctorate degree in 2014 from University of Malaya. He is currently serving as a senior lecturer at the department of Biomedical Science, Faculty of Medicine. Dr. Kee’s areas of expertise are molecular genetics, population genetics and mitochondrial DNA. Dr. Kee carries out genetic association study to investigate the relationship between genetic markers and the onset of disease in Crohn’s disease and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus patients. Currently, he also received several funding for genetic study of Cardiomyopathy, in which he employs various molecular approaches to examine and characterize the genetic composition of patients, including next-generation sequencing approaches. Other than that, Dr. Kee also works on the identification and differentiation of microorganisms using various molecular techniques, such as TaqMan chemistry, high resolution melt curve analysis, and Loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP). Dr. Kee is experienced to examine and analyze genomic data generated from markers in different DNA systems, including mitochondrial DNA, autosomal and sex chromosomes, using biostatistical method, phylogenetic analysis, principle component analysis and diversity index analysis.

Sc in Human Physiology with specialization in Microbiology and Immunology from Vidyasagar University in 2009. He was also recipient of “Genetic Biotechnology, Senior research fellowship” from Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Govt. of India in 2013 and awarded JRF from Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt of India in 2009. After Ph D. he has completed two postdoctoral research from Calcutta School of Tropical Medicine, India in 2017. In the same year he joined as a guest faculty of molecular biology and immunology in Vidyasagar University. Furthermore, he joined department of Physiology, Lincoln University College Malaysia as senior lecture in 2018 where he became HOD of Physiology in 2019. In early 2021, he joined as an assistant professor of department of Physiology, Manipal University College Malaysia. Subsequently, in 2024 he joined department of Physiology, Faculty of Medicine, University Malaya as senior lecturer. His field of research are broadly on infectious disease, malaria, cancer, host immune interaction, nano drug delivery and development of early detection kit. He has extensively worked on molecular epidemiology and drug resistant pattern of Plasmodium. falciparum in different endemic zones of India. He has widely worked on understanding of chloroquine, and sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine resistance in P. falciparum and P. vivax. He was the first person to identify the failing of artemisinin combination therapy efficacy in eastern India and found the evidence of emergence of partial artemisinin resistant P. falciparum, thereby established a novel validate marker of artemisinin resistance. He has also extensively worked on nano mediated drug delivery against, parasite, bacteria and cancer cells. He has also developed novel early detection kit for malaria and dengue. He has also worked widely on immunity after covid vaccination. Till date he has published more than 30 international research articles in different reputed journals including New England Journal of Medicine, Clinical infectious disease, International J of Antimicrobial Agent, Antimicrobial Agent and Chemotherapy, International J Parasitology: drug and drug resistance, International J of Pharmaceutics, Journal of biological macromolecule, European J of Pharmacology, Journal of Biological Inorganic Chemistry. He has one granted Malaysian Patent and filed one Indian Patent. He received prestigious INSA (Indian National Science Academy) Medal for Young Scientists for the year 2022 in health science (India’s highest recognition of promise, creativity and excellence in a young scientist). He also awarded “Young Scientist Award” in ‘Medical Science including Physiology’ by Indian Science Congress Association in 2017 for his commendable work in “Drug resistance malaria and nano drug development”. He has involved in different teaching activities for the students of different programs in University Malaya such as Bachelor of Biomedical Science, Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), and Bachelor of Dental Surgery. In his previous working place (MUCM) he was working as a Director of Research Management Centre (RMC) as well coordinator of mentor student project (MSB) for MBBS. He is the member of Royal Society of Biology (London). He is also the member of Malaysian Society of Pharmacology and Physiology (MSPP). He is also life member of The Physiological Society of Indian.
