Tan Chin Lung (Alex) is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Decision Science, Faculty of Business and Economics, Universiti Malaya. He holds a PhD in Social and Behavioural Science and a Master of Applied Statistics from Universiti Malaya, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with Education from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), Malaysia. His expertise lies in applied statistics and applied mathematics, with research interests spanning population ageing, health, active ageing, and social protection.

As a Senior Lecturer, Alex teaches a range of subjects involving quantitative and analytical methods across different disciplines. His teaching encompasses applied statistics and applied mathematics in business, biostatistics, operations research, management science, social science, and public health. His teaching and academic interests reflect a broader focus on applying statistical, mathematical, and analytical methods to real-world decision-making, health and social research, and complex societal issues.

Prior to his appointment as a Senior Lecturer, Alex was involved in several national and international research initiatives, particularly in the areas of population ageing, health, and social protection. He played a key role in the Malaysia Ageing and Retirement Survey (MARS), serving as a field enumerator and programmer for the MARS Wave 1 Data Harmonization project. He also contributed to research initiatives including the Design of an Integrated Social Protection Programme for Children in Sarawak, the Study on Psychological Distress, Coping Patterns, and Social Support During the COVID-19 Pandemic Among Malaysian Older Adults, and the development of the National Toolkit for Monitoring and Evaluating Active Ageing in Malaysia.
