Biography | |
Began at entry level in 1988 as computer programmer in software industry for 6 years. He is Professor of Data Science, Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, University of Malaya, Malaysia. He obtained tertiary academic qualifications from the Oklahoma City University, USA – B. Sc (1994), and M.Sc (1995, Computer Science) and the University of Malaya, Malaysia for Phd in Data Mining (2004). Since then, more than 80 academic papers have been published in proceedings and respectable journals internationally within top 1% ranking (Information Fusion ,IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON FUZZY SYSTEMS, INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF INFORMATION MANAGEMENT) . He received a very good number of citation in Web of Science (H-index :17, 1626 citations) , Scopus (H-index: 21, 2355 citations), google scholars (H-index:27, 4220 citations) databases. He actively supervises numerous students at all level of study – Bachelor, Master (12 completed) and Ph.D. (10 completed). Areas of interest in research includes Data warehouse, Data Mining, Deep Learning, IoT, Activity Recognition; Wearable Sensors; Accelerometers, Heart Arrhythmia; Electrocardiograph; Supraventricular Premature Beat; Dynamic Time Warping; Motif Discovery; Multivariate Time Series, Edge Computing; Task Scheduling; Location Awareness; Data Streams; Mobile Computing; Speaker Verification; Language Recognition; Utterance; Clustering Algorithms; Spatial Data Mining; MapReduce; .Investor Attention; Stock Market; Sentiment Analysis. Besides that, he has received several grants (public & private) of more than RM one million. Currently, he serves as a reviewer to several high quality journals, He serves as an Expert Advisory Panel for Master of Science (Data Science) Degree Program at UTP, Programme Advisory Pane  Bachelor of Business (Honors) in Business Analytics at TARUC. Recently, has completed two commercial data science projects such as Petronas GTD Data Science Project and Air Liquide Smart Innovative Operations Research Operations. He has been teaching data mining subject since 2002 which involved bachelor and Master programmes. He has produced data scientist graduates since 2002. |
