Dr Norazlin Ab Aziz joined the Department of Finance & Banking in the Faculty of Business & Accountancy in early 2021 to share her knowledge and expertise in Islamic finance and economics. Prior to this, she was in the unit trust industry involved in legal & compliance, marketing & business development, and project management. Norazlin obtained her Bachelor of Economics (Hons) from the International Islamic University of Malaysia, Master of Economics from the University Malaya and later completed her PhD in Accounting & Finance at the University of Glasgow. In her doctoral research, she critically examined the development of Islamic finance in Malaysia, theorising it through the trio of Political Economy Theory comprising Legitimacy, Stakeholder and Institutional theories. The underlying sentiments and the styles of Malaysian policymakers’ speeches were also assessed. Norazlin draws from a broad base in Islamic finance, the components of Islamic capital market, political economy, social theories, and linguistic analysis, to understand and critically evaluate the processes therein. This indicative of her research interest in Islamic finance from a policymaking perspective, products and services in the Islamic capital market, the future direction of the Islamic finance industry as well as the usage of computer-aided text analysis in business reporting and documents.
show more »Professor Dr. Haris Abd Wahab is a faculty member at the Department of Social Administration and Justice, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Universiti Malaya. He currently serves as the Deputy Dean (Development) and previously held the position of Deputy Dean (Student Affairs) within the same faculty. With over two decades of experience, Dr. Haris specializes in Community Development and has been instrumental in advancing teaching, learning, and research in the fields of community development and social work. He lectures on various subjects including social problems, social work, community development, social marketing, research methodology, and social theories. His research interests encompass community well-being, social care programs for at-risk children in Malaysia, children’s well-being, and social development among vulnerable groups. Before joining academia, Dr. Haris served as a Medical Social Worker at the Ministry of Health Malaysia from 1996 to 2000, where he gained valuable field experience in social work practice.
show more »Dr. Tuan Zaharinie Binti Tuan Zahari is a Senior Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Malaya (UM). She holds a Bachelor of Engineering (2006) and a Master of Engineering Science (2009) in Materials Engineering, as well as a PhD (2014) in Advanced Manufacturing Technology: Brazing, all from the same university. She specializes in metal and alloys heat treatment and joining technology, particularly brazing process for similar or dissimilar materials and porous metal joining. She also explores the research areas of heat transfer, energy, and material recycling. She has published more than 25 technical papers and a book chapter in this fields which are mostly International Scientific Indexing (ISI)-indexed journal papers. She is also an active researcher who has received and been the principal investigator for various research grants, including University of Malaya Research Grant (UMRG), Impact-Oriented Interdisciplinary Research Grant Programme (IIRG), two times Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) from Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia (MOHE), etc. She teaches several courses for Mechanical Engineering undergraduates, such as Manufacturing Technology, Machine Tool Engineering, Advanced Manufacturing Processes, Energy and Environment, etc.
