Associate Professor Dr Chai Wen Lin BDS (Malaya), MDSc (Malaya), FDSRCS (England), PhD (Sheffield) Associate Professor Dr Chai Wen Lin graduated from University of Malaya in 1994. She joined Ministry of Health as a dental officer in Ipoh. She then pursued her specialist training and obtained her Fellowship from Royal College of Surgeons of England (FDSRCS) in 1998. With her interest in teaching, she returned to her alma matter to be a lecturer till now. Throughout her tenure as a lecturer, she never stops learning; she started her research journey since then and finally obtained her Master in Dental Science in 2005 and PhD in 2010. She has had experienced in various area of researches, such as endodontic, implant-soft tissue interface and qualitative study. The study topics include the morphology of C-shaped canal, the antimicrobial efficacy of intracanal medicaments in Enterococcus faecalis biofilm, development of an in-vitro tissue-engineered oral mucosal model for the investigation of implant-soft tissue interface and more recently, a qualitative study on patients’ perception. Her researches have brought her multiple local and international awards. She has published numerous articles in local and foreign journals, not only pertaining to her research topics but also on various aspects of dentistry.
show more »I am currently a postdoctoral research fellow at the Hashim Sani Centre for Palestine Studies, Universiti Malaya. My primary research interests lie in the fields of translation studies, applied linguistics, and education technology, with a particular focus on the intersections between translation, artificial intelligence, and language education. I have also authored several works on Palestine, contributing to the academic discourse on the region's language, culture, and translation practices. In addition to my research, I have been an invited speaker and presenter at over 45 international conferences globally, where I share my expertise in translation and applied linguistics. I am a seasoned interpreter with over 150 conferences and events in my background, which informs my academic work and deepens my understanding of the practical challenges in translation and communication. I am the founder and CEO of the Asian Federation of Translators and Interpreters in Malaysia, an organization dedicated to advancing the field of translation and interpretation across the region. I also serve on the editorial boards of the Cambridge Scholars of Language & Linguistics (UK) and the International Journal of Applied Linguistics and Translation (USA), where I contribute to the development of scholarship in these fields. Throughout my career, I have published numerous peer-reviewed papers, books, and book chapters, with a particular focus on the intersection of linguistics, technology, and translation. show more »Professor Dr Shahrul Bahyah Kamaruzzaman is a Professor of Geriatric Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine Universiti Malaya and Senior Consultant Geriatrician practicing at the University of Malaya Medical Center(UMMC). She returned to Malaysia in 2002 after her geriatric training in Cardiff, United Kingdom and served as Senior Lecturer in the country’s first Geriatric unit at UMMC. Dr Shahrul played a key role in the training and refining of the geriatric multidisciplinary team as well as the acute geriatric care services at UMMC. She embarked on her PhD in November 2006 at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and was awarded a PhD in Epidemiology and Population Health in July 2010. Her thesis was on assessment of frailty where she developed and validated a weighted Frailty index in the British older population. On her return, apart from frailty, her research interests include Sarcopenia, falls, dementia as well Ageing in HIV populations. Her training in geriatrics and epidemiology have been useful in her activities as a founder member of the Ageing and Age-Associated Disorders Research Group at Universiti Malaya as well as the Malaysian Society of Geriatric Medicine; council member of the Gerontology Association of Malaysia and current President of the Malaysian Healthy Ageing Society. Recently, she has expanded her consultancy work into 'Age-friendly initiatives' with the Penang Island and Petaling Jaya City Councils in support of their application for the WHO Age Friendly City status. All these various clinical,academic and community roles have helped cement her commitment to the development of clinical services, ageing research and medical education in Malaysia
