PROF. DR. RAMESH KASI

Dr Ramesh Kasi graduated PhD from University of Malaya in 2007. His research interests focus on electrochemical applications of polymer materials which are used in energy storage systems and corrosion protection. He joined as Senior Lecturer in Physics Department in 2010 and got promoted as Professor in 2024. 25 PhD and 25 MSc have been graduated under the guidance of Dr Ramesh and currently 11 PhD and 2 Master degree students are pursuing their studies under his supervision. He has served in many administrative positions as Quality Manager, Programme Coordinator, Treasurer for the Centre for Ionics Universiti Malaya, Course file coordinator, Curriculum Review Committee for MSc Applied Physics and Industrial Training Coordinator. He has published more than 280 research papers in high ranked journals having 10,080 citations and h-index of 55. He has been successful in securing substantial funds for research from Universiti Malaya (UMRG and UMRP) and Malaysian government funding agencies (FRGS, PRGS), Tin Industry (Research and Development) Board , international funding like Erasmus+ (4 grants), Nippon Sheet Glass Foundation and ASEAN India Research Collaboration grant (2 grants). He has got 2 Malaysian patent granted and 2 patent filed for his credit. Dr Ramesh has been elected as the Fellow in Royal Society of Chemistry (UK) and Institute of Materials Malaysia. He has received several awards and medals in participating international technological expo including ITEX, MTE, PECIPTA, IRIISE and BioMalaysia. He won Tun Lim Keng Yaik Award for best invention in technology reversing climate change (ITEX 2023), WINNER – category 1 - Gold Award - International Borneo Innovation, Exhibition & Competition 2023 (IBIEC 2023), Automotive Excellent Award (1st Place)- 12th Creation, Innovation, Technology & Research Exposition (CITREX 2022), Gold Award, and Best Award, AIIREX 2022, Asian Invention Excellence Award, ITEX 2021, Automotive Special Award – 1st Place- CITREX 2021, Special Award - MTE 2020 - Croatia Inova, Malaysian Technology Expo, 2020, Professional Special Award - International Research Innovation, Invention & Solution Exposition (IRIISE 2018), International Eureka Innovation Exhibition (iEIE 2017) Best Award in “Environmental Protection and Renewable Energy” category, CHAMPION – RM 50,000 Project Award, UTP Innovation Competition in conjunction with UTP 20th Year Anniversary Celebration, "The Best Award" in Malaysian Technology Expo (MTE 2016, Best Poster presentation ICFMD 2015, ITEX 2015 and Best Invention Award, Pecipta 2013 Gold Medal, Best of the Best Award in Electrical and Electronics Category. Dr. Ramesh has won the third prize with research grant award of RM 15000 in the Universiti Malaya Research Carnival 2022. He has been awarded as the Best Reviewer of the year 2015 by Emerald Publications. He has involved in organizing international conferences (ICFMD 2013, 2015, 2019, 2021, and 2024, Solar Asia 2013, CoMSE 2023. and international advisory committee in many international conferences) and participated as panel of judges in national science fair for children. Dr. Ramesh has been invited as keynote, plenary and invited speaker in various international conferences throughout the world. He has been awarded as Excellent Service Certificate in 2018 and 2024 at Universiti Malaya.

PROF. DR. MOHD RAFIE BIN JOHAN

Professor Dr. Mohd Rafie Bin Johan is an Award Winning Scientist and International Keynote Speaker. He is true example of how theoretical and fundamental research leads to remarkable progresses in the applied, engineering and industrial use of nano-designed advanced materials. Born in Melaka, in 1968, Professor Rafie graduated with a BSc(Hons) in Physics from University of Malaya, Malaysia, in 1993 and BEng in Chemical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia in 2023. He continued his studies at Institute for Advanced Studies, Universiti of Malaya, where he obtained his MPhil in Quantum Optics in 1997, moving then to Department of Physics, University of Malaya where he obtained his PhD in Theoretical Physics in 2005. From 1999 to 1991 he was also Head of Biomedical Engineering Program in Faculty of Engineering, University of Malaya. He later moved to Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Malaya where from the year 2005 until 2009, as a senior lecturer and played the role of Coordinator for Materials Engineering Undergraduate Program. In 2010, he is promoted to Associate Professor to steer research in Nanomaterials Engineering. Then, in 2015, he is promoted to Professor of Materials Engineering. In 2016, he is transferred to Nanotechnology and Catalysis Research Centre (NANOCAT), University of Malaya Centre of Excellence (UMCOE), an internationally well-recognized center with the mission to be the world leader in “nanotechnology and catalysis” coining sustainability resources and green technology. In 2017, he is appointed as a Director of NANOCAT. Prof. Rafie is well recognized internationally in the field of Nanotechnology. Testimony to this, he has been elected in Evaluation Panels for AET and ITR clusters and UPGP and for grants applications at UMRG, PRGS, FRGS, and Qatar Foundation. He also has been appointed as panel for Yang di Pertuan Agong Scholarship and COMSTECS for Islamic Organization Country for evaluation of best scientific papers for Muslim Scientist and Qatar Reseach Foundation. Prof Rafie also has been invited as a speaker to numerous talks and conferences and also Guest Editor for Symmetry (ISI journal) and editor for Asean Engineering Journal. In 2010, he was a visiting scientist at Department of Materials Science and Engineering, University of Cambridge and at 2012, he was a visiting scholar at Abdus Salam International Center for Theoretical Physics, Trieste, Italy. The educational contribution of Prof. Rafie may be summarized in few numbers: 40 PhD completed (20 on-going), 30 Master completed (10 on going). These supervised students span over a quite broad scientific area going from science (chemistry, physics, material science, biology) to engineering (chemical, material). He had published more 350 ISI papers with H index 40 (WoS) and 44 Google scholar with 7791 citations. He had various research project (National, International (Jica) and Industry (Petronas, Hartalega and NanoMalaysia) with total amount more than RM 19 million. He is awarded Top Research Scientist Malaysia (TRSM) 2021 by Academy Sciences Malaysia and winner of Top in Tech Innovation Award (Most Impactful Academia-Industry Collaboration. He was awarded UM Excellence award for Best HICOE-UMCOE (2022) and elected as Fellow Royal Society of Chemistry (UK) 2023. He was promoted to Senior Professor (VK6) in 2023. Recently, he was elected as  Fellow Academy Science Malaysia in 2024.

ASSOCIATE PROF. DR. HASLINA BINTI MUHAMAD

Haslina Muhamad earned her Bachelor of Science degree (Biology & Psychology) from Deakin University, Australia. Upon graduation, she joined University Malaya as a tutor. In 2006, she went on to study at the Universiti Malaya where she received her Master of Arts (Psychology) degree. In 2007, she served as a lecturer at the Department of Anthropology & Sociology, Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences, University Malaya. In 2009, she pursued her PhD in Psychology at Monash University, Australia. Haslina is currently a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Anthropology & Sociology with a specialisation in adolescent psychology. She has a special interest in adolescents’ personalities, health and well-being. More specifically her work aims to address the four areas, namely personality, mental health, well-being and high-risk behaviour among adolescents. Her contribution to this field includes: conducting research on mental health behaviour among adolescents and assessing the personality and mental health level among college students. During the past year, Haslina has participated in several community projects such as conducting a mini-workshop on well-being for youths attending Institut Kemahiran Belia Negara (IKBN). Haslina is presently a member of the Asian Psychological Association and American Psychological Association. Haslina teaches psychology courses to postgraduate and undergraduate students. Administratively, Haslina currently was the Head of the Department of Anthropology & Sociology, University Malaya from 2017 to 2021.
