PROF. DR. ADINA BINTI ABDULLAH

Dr Adina Abdullah has a decade of experience in primary healthcare delivery, health systems research and the development and implementation of digital health interventions in Malaysia. She has built strong networks with relevant policy, health system and community stakeholders. Dr Adina is a family medicine specialist and a professor at the Department of Primary Care Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya (UM). Dr Adina graduated with a Bachelor of Medical Science (hons) in 1997 and Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 1999 from the University of Nottingham, UK. She obtained a Masters of Medicine (Family Medicine) and PhD at the Universiti Malaya. Her interest in digital health evolved after she became a member of the core team responsible for the implementation of the Hospital Information System at the Ministry of Health Hospitals in 2004. Stemming from her Masters’ thesis, she was involved in the development and implementation of home blood pressure telemonitoring which was developed by a Universiti Malaya spin off company, UMCH Sdn Bhd.  Dr Adina is also a committee member for the non-profit organization, Digital Health Malaysia. She co-leads the mHealth and telehealth division at the Universiti Malaya eHealth Unit. Since 2012, she has been leading research and publishing papers on the use of telemonitoring, patients’ perspectives on digital health, prevalence of health literacy and patients’ use of online health information to make decisions on medications. Through her research, Adina has also worked closely with stakeholders from the Malaysian Ministry of Health, academic institutions and the industry.

ASSOCIATE PROF. DR. KHANG TSUNG FEI

Finding patterns of variation in biology fascinating, I chose to study genetics and molecular biology in Universiti Malaya, graduating in 2002 with first class honours. Subsequently, I turned to the roots of the study of patterns of variation - statistics, receiving my MSc in statistics from Universiti Malaya in 2005. I completed my PhD in statistics at the National University of Singapore in 2009. Since 2010, I have been with Universiti Malaya. Currently, I am an associate professor at the Institute of Mathematical Sciences, and a fellow of the Royal Statistical Society, UK. My research interest broadly covers the area of data science, machine learning, bioinformatics, ecology, and medical statistics. Since 2010, I have worked in over 20 projects as the principal consultant statistician, and conducted numerous workshops on statistics, bioinformatics, and R programming. Presently, I head the UM Centre for Data Analytics, which focuses on establishing collaborative research and engagement between the industry and the academia in Malaysia. I enjoy reading, travelling, nature walks, and more recently, engaging fellow scientists in Twitter space.

DR. CHOW UNG T'CHIANG

Daniel Chow Ung T’chiang (PhD) is a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics, Universiti Malaya. He was the former Deputy Dean (Research, 2022) and former Deputy Dean (Research and Development, 2020-2022). His areas of interest include English for Specific Purposes and Critical Genre Analysis. He is currently involved in research projects on Professional Discourses and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Daniel is the Treasurer of the Malaysian Association of Applied Linguistics (MAAL), an affiliate of the International Association of Applied Linguistics (AILA), and the Treasurer for the AILA2024 Congress.
