DR. NURSHAFARINA BINTI JASME

Dr. Nurshafarina serves as a senior lecturer in the Department of Building Surveying at Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Housing, Building, and Planning (Building Surveying), a Master’s in Building Technology, and a PhD in Construction Materials and Technology, all conferred by Universiti Sains Malaysia. Before joining Universiti Malaya, Dr. Nurshafarina amassed considerable industry experience with a leading construction chemicals firm, where she specialized in designing sustainable concrete solutions and developing advanced chemical admixtures for both ready-mix and pre-cast concrete applications. Her research portfolio encompasses a breadth of cutting-edge construction technologies, with particular focus on sustainable cementitious materials, concrete admixtures and durability enhancement. She actively welcomes applications from motivated Master’s and PhD candidates interested in advancing research in sustainable and innovative construction materials. DR. AARONN AVIT AJENG

Dr Aaronn Avit Ajeng is presently a postdoctoral research fellow in Plant Biotechnology and Biochemistry at the Centre for Research in Biotechnology for Agriculture (CEBAR), Universiti Malaya, where he utilizes his expertise on plants systems biology (metabolomics) to study abiotic stress response in Purslane. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree with Second Upper Class Honors in Biotechnology from the Institute of Biological Sciences, Universiti Malaya. He was subsequently awarded a PhD in Biology and Biochemistry from the same institution for his work on sustainable carbon-based technologies and their impact on plant metabolites and physiological responses. His doctoral research, BacChar™ is a patented and trademarked biofertilizer technology in Malaysia has received multiple recognitions, including the Malaysian Society of Soil Science (MSSS) Best PhD Thesis 2024, ITEX 2024 Gold and Special Award (Best Innovator), the Human Life Advancement Foundation (HLAF) Award, and he was awarded the Rising Star Scientist Award in 2022 from University of Nottingham for his early commitment and excellence in academic research. Dr. Ajeng also serves as AI Brand Ambassador, where he leverages his academic expertise to collaborate with leading Artificial Intelligence (AI) companies and startups. In this role, he showcases the integration of AI technologies within academic research, enhancing the visibility and application of AI tools in scientific communities.

DR. RAIHANA BINTI ABDUL WAHAB

Raihana Abdul Wahab's main research interest is on the Islamic Astronomy, particularly in Observational Astronomy. She graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Shariah major in Islamic Astronomy from the Universiti Malaya and holds a Ph.D. in Islamic Astronomy from University Malaya in 2014.  Since 2015, she appointed as a Senior Lecturer for Islamic Astronomy Programme under the Department of Fiqh-Usul and Applied Sciences, Academy of Islamic Studies, Universiti Malaya. She has been invited to deliver talks about several topics in Islamic Astronomy Research in Malaysia. Her completed research project is a Sky Brightness Research for Determination of Early Fajr Prayer Times funded by University of Malaya. Furthermore, she was the Principle Investigator of the fatwa research grant that was awarded by JAKIM for the Reevaluation of the Sun’s Altitude for Determination Beginning of Fajr Prayer Times in Malaysia. The findings of this research was presented to Fatwa Research and Management Committee, JAKIM and National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs of Malaysia (MKI). At the end of November 2019, several states announce earlier compared to other states on changes of beginning for Fajr prayer time to average 8 minutes later than the existing prayer time calendar. On April 21, 2020, the State of Kelantan announced the changes of the early Fajr prayer time. Therefore, all states in Malaysia have adopted the parameters of this research. She has also awarded a community research grant entitled Bringing Astronomy Community to Educate People under the University of Malaya Community Engagement Center (UMCares) research fund from 2018-2020. Her current research is Application of The Digital Imaging Techniques in the Observation of the Young Crescent Moon from the Perspective of Shariah and Astronomy.  She has written more than 10 articles in international and local journals. Due to her extensive experience in the research work that has been carried out, she has been appointed by the Perak State Mufti Department as one of the members of the Falak committee for the State of Perak from 2018 until present. She also has been appointed as Islamic Astronomy Expert Panel for Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) from 2024-2025.
