Dr Hemavathi Shanmugam is a psychiatrist and medical lecturer with the Department of Psychological Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University Malaya. She has over ten years of experience in psychiatry as a medical officer and clinical specialist under the Ministry of Health, Malaysia. 

She joined the University Malaya in 2024 to pursue her passion for teaching and mental health research. Her area of interest include mood disorders and neuromodulation. She is member of the Clinical TMS Society and is currently undergoing attachment at the Neuromodulation Clinic, University Malaya Medical Centre.
