Dr. Hemavathi Shanmugam is a psychiatrist and medical lecturer at the University of Malaya with a clinical and academic focus on non-invasive brain stimulation. She is certified in transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS; PULSES, USA) and transcranial electrical stimulation (TES; PlatoScience, Denmark), and is an active member of the Clinical TMS Society and its Asian Special Interest Council (CTMSS). She led the implementation of rTMS services at UMMC for psychiatric disorders, in collaboration with the Rehabilitation Medicine department. Her research focuses on neuromodulation and health economics, including real-world outcomes and cost-effectiveness studies supported by a BKP grant. She has emerging interests in precision neuromodulation, particularly neuronavigation-guided and accelerated TMS protocols.
