Associate Professor Dr Siti Nurani Mohd Nor is the Founding Director of the Centre for the Initiation of Talent and Industrial Training formerly known as the Section on Co-curricular Studies, External Electives and TITAS (SKET). She also held the post of Head of the Department of Science & Technology Studies in the Faculty of Science, University of Malaya from 1999-2001, 2008-2011 and 2012-2014. She studied the Philosophy of Ethics at the University of New South Wales and was awarded the Master of Science in Society (1995). In 2001, she gained a partial scholarship to attend an intensive course in Bioethics at the Kennedy Institute of Ethics at the Georgetown University, Washington DC. She was awarded a PhD in Bioethics by the University of Malaya in 2003. She spearheads and designed the Faculty course Ethics and Safety and introduced PBL as the learning strategy. Also coordinator of the Faculty of Science course Professional Ethics and Morals in 2002-2004, until today Siti teaches the following courses, Issues in Bioethics, Ethics in Science & Technology Studies, Ethics of Knowledge and the Profession as well as a postgraduate course Ethics, Sociology and Communications in S&T and Ethics and Sustainable Policies in S&T and Innovation, recently branded as Ethics of Sustainability Science. Her research interests include Problem-based learning in Ethics, Ethics of New Biomedical Technologies (Bioethics), Ethics of Animal Experimentation, Public Understanding of Science through Empowerment , Ethics of Human Enhancement and most recently Women in Science. She is also an active member of the RUSHHAP-UNESCO Bangkok Working Group 5 on Ethics of Energy Technologies – Community Engagement and the Asian Bioethics Association. She was also Visiting Scholar of the Monash Bioethics Centre for Bioethics and Human Rights in 2012. She has supervised to completion 4 PhD scholars and one Master graduate with 5 more ongoing and 4 more Masters students. Siti was also appointed External Examiner of the Master of Bioethics Programme (2010) in Centre for Bioethics, Sindh Intitute of Urology, Karachi and Master of Bioethics of the Bangladesh Bioethics Association (2016). More recently, she was appointed Visiting Professor of Philosophy and Bioethics of the American University of Sovereign Nations, Arizona, USA http://ausn.info/faculty Siti is also Editor-in-Chief of the e-journal of HSD (Holistic Student Development), a journal created under the aegis of the Malaysian Universities Co-curriculum Council (UniCC).
