I am a full time Professor at the Department of Anatomy, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya. I received PhD from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom in the field of Neuroscience. I am a trained Human Anatomist and have been teaching Gross and Clinical Anatomy to hundreds of undergraduate Medical (MBBS Year 1 & 2 ), Dental (BDS Year 1), and postgraduate surgical students (Master of Surgery & Master of ENT) and Dental postgraduates (MClintDent) for more than 30 years. I have wide experience in teaching Human Anatomy using human cadavers, plastinated specimens, models, online and hybrid methods.
My main area of research is neural regeneration focusing on axonal mechanisms and extracellular matrix molecules related to regeneration processes in both the peripheral and central nervous systems. My research group is also involved in exploring natural products that can improve neural regeneration, and those which can enhance learning and memory. My other research interests include Cognitive Neuroscience aspects of Anatomical Education focusing in Cognitive Loads, Clinical Anatomy and Dental Implants. I have presented our work at many local and international conferences and published in many international indexed peer-reviewed journals. I have served as a reviewer for numerous journals and supervised many Master and PhD students.
In addition, on the administration side I have served as the Head, Department of Anatomy over many years at Faculty of Medicine,University of Malaya.
I hold membership at various societies including The Oxford and Cambridge Society Malaysia, Malaysian Society of Neurosciences and Malaysian Anatomical Association.
