Dr. Zaira Zaman Chowdhury is working as a Senior Lecturer in Nanotechnology & Catalysis Research Centre (NANOCAT), a potential National HICOE and UM COE. Earlier, she was appointed as Senior Research Fellow under the same institution. She has completed her Post Doctoral Research Fellowship from 1/10/2013-31/03/2015 in Nanotechnology & Catalysis Research Centre (NANOCAT), University Malaya. Previously, she was appointed as Research Officer in Nanotechnology & Catalysis Research Centre (NANOCAT), University Malaya from 1/04/2013 to 30/09/2013. She has started her career with University Malaya from November 2008 Research Assistant in the Department of Chemistry under supervision of Prof. Dr. Sharifuddin Mohd. Zain. She received her PhD in Environmental Analytical Chemistry from University of Malaya in 2013, whilst MSc. In Polymer Engineering and Technology from University of Dhaka, Bangladesh in 2003, and BSc. in Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Technology from University of Dhaka, Bangladesh in 2001 and Bachelor in Education (BEd.) in 2007 from Royale University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. She has completed her training in Environmental Analytical Chemistry from TAFE, Sydney, Australia. She has received Cambridge International Diploma for Teacher & Trainers (CIDTT) from Cambridge University, UK with “Distinction” in 2006-2007. She has experience in the development of fiber polymer composites, waste water treatment and adsorbent preparation for batch and fixed bed adsorption system. She has worked for synthesis of micro and nano structured carbon and biomass processing using catalyst. She has conducted some research to illustrate the catalytic application of carbon as well as extraction of nano and micro dimensional cellulose. She has contributed more than 117 papers in ISI & Scopus top ranking journal with 95 international Conference Proceedings. At present she is guiding 12 PhD and 11 Mphil scholars. She has 49,715.65 RM International Grant achieved from International Industries and Universities. As a Principal investigator, she had 163,336 RM earlier. At present (2021) she had internal funding of 3,56,000 RM and external funding of 3,37,215.86 RM as PI and co-researcher. She has 2 International Patent having H index 25.Dr. Zaira has received several esteemed award such as Dr. Zaira has received several esteemed award such as International Education Excellence Award in nanotechnology 2021 from CPAC from UK, , Distinguished Researcher Award in Nano-catalyis and Water Treatment, Excellent Scientific Award in 2020 for "Carbon Chemistry and Water Treatment, IMRF Brezileius Award in Nanotechnology and Catalysis 2019, India; Best Researcher Award in Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering 2019, India; ISPA Gunasekaran Award 2018, India; Best Scientist Award in Nanotechnology 2018, India; Elsevier’s Atlas award in 2015, Gold Award and Silver Award from Malaysian Inventions and Design Society (MINDS) and University Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP, 2013). She has received CIMA Appreciation Award from Malaysian Inventions and Design Society (MINDS) and University Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP, 2013). Recently she has received Bronze Award from International Engineering Innovation and Invention Exhibition (IENVEX), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP 2014). show more »Chong Yang CHUAH is Senior Lecturer at the Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Malaya (UM). He gained BE and PhD in Chemical Engineering from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. His research is dedicated to the separation process with the use of adsorption and membranes in molecular-based separation process. Dr. CHUAH's professional qualifications include being a Chartered Engineer (C.Eng) since 2023, accredited by the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), United Kingdom. He is currently involved in reviewing the Individual Case Procedure (ICP) to access potential C.Eng applications submitted to IChemE. He also obtained his Professional Technologist (Ts.) status in 2022 from the Malaysian Board of Technologist, Malaysia. He has also received several certifications, namely HRD Corp Certified Trainer in July 2024 and Aspen Certified User in Aspen HYSYS in 2023.
show more »Dr. Mumtaz Aini Alivi is Senior Lecturer at the Department of Media and Communication Studies, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. She earned her Bachelor of Art (Hons) with a double major in (i) Language and Malay Linguistics and (ii) Journalism from Universiti Putra Malaysia. She earned her Master of Corporate Communication and Doctor of Philosophy (Mass Communication) from the same university.Her research interests and focuses are mainly in Journalism, Broadcasting, News, Online Media, Political Communication, and Mass Communication. Apart from her academic qualifications, Dr. Mumtaz also has broad experiences in journalism, news, broadcasting, and media industry management. She was a media practitioner for twenty-two years in a government television station, Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM). For almost twenty years, she was attached to the News and Current Affairs department, where she was involved with multitasking work in her position as Broadcast Journalist, Newscaster, News Editor, and News Producer. Her service to RTM exposed her to many challenging assignments, including following the prime minister and country leaders for international news coverage abroad, doing live news coverage and news reporting from the parliament, and other important events in the country, apart from daily news coverage. Upon completion of her PhD, Dr. Mumtaz was given a different task in RTM as Assistant Director for the Policy and Research section. Later, she held the same position in the Strategic Planning section before being transferred to the Quality Control for Creative Content Unit as Evaluation Officer. These three different sections are under the Strategic Development Department, where she spent another two more years in RTM. During her service in RTM, she also worked for a few months in Malaysian National News Agency (BERNAMA) as a journalist under the government staff exchange program between RTM and BERNAMA. She gained valuable experiences through the BERNAMA newswire service and BERNAMA TV. Prior to joining RTM, she completed her internship in a private TV station, Sistem Televisyen Malaysia (TV3). In total, she has extensive exposure and experience in the media industry, particularly in the news department, mainly in TV, some experience in radio, and in managerial and management duties. Her passion and enthusiasm for journalism finally culminated to winning the Best Broadcast Journalist award in 2001 at the national level.Being in the media industry for more than two decades and having academic qualifications in the same field, she was also appointed by few organizations for various tasks and consultancy work. Dr. Mumtaz was appointed as one of the panel of judges for the prestigious Malaysian Journalism Award organized by Malaysia Press Institute (MPI), panel for Pitching Evaluation (Private) and Panel for Screening (Syndicated) for programs in RTM, think tank member of Ciber Generation Laboratory in Institute for Social Science Studies (IPSAS), Universiti Putra Malaysia, and expert advisor for Promotion and Publicity in the University of Malaya. She is also on the editorial board of the Malaysian Journal of Media Studies.Dr. Mumtaz decided to shift from being a media practitioner to an academic staff at the University of Malaya in 2021 and begin a new career path with a bigger mission. She believes the educational field is the right platform to share all her knowledge and experience for the nation’s development and shape future leaders.
