Dr. Wahib M. Atroosh, hailing from Yemen, is a senior lecturer in the Department of Parasitology at Universiti Malaya (UM), where he has been a faculty member since 2019. He began his academic journey in the same department, completing his Master's degree in 2012, and subsequently pursued a PhD, which he earned with Distinction in 2017. Dr. Wahib's research focuses primarily on Plasmodium falciparum, the parasite responsible for the majority of severe malaria cases and deaths in humans, known for its high mortality rate and increasing resistance to antimalarial drugs. His expertise includes monitoring antimalarial drug resistance through in vivo clinical trials and the application of molecular gene markers of drug resistance. In addition to his primary research on malaria, Dr. Wahib collaborates with local and international research teams, including partnerships with the Medical Research Center at Jazan University in Saudi Arabia, the School of Biological Science at Universiti Sains Malaysia, and the College of Health Sciences, Nigeria. These collaborations explore the epidemiology, genotyping, and molecular characterisation of antimalarial drug resistance in P. falciparum isolates from both Saudi Arabia and Nigeria. Dr. Wahib's contributions to the field of parasitology extend to other areas, including research on leishmaniasis, intestinal protozoa, schistosomiasis, soil-transmitted helminths (STH), and parasite-related health education programs. Dr. Wahib has also been involved in developing a novel gene marker aimed at differentiating P. falciparum isolates, enhancing the correctness of the malaria therapeutic efficacy studies outcome. Throughout his career at UM, Dr. Wahib has successfully secured internal and external research grants and contributed to 46 publications in indexed journals with an h-index of 21 and a total of 1,845 citations. He was also awarded the Universiti Malaya Excellent Service Award (APC) for the year 2023. Dr. Wahib actively contributes to the academic community as a member of scientific and technical committees and serves as a judge at international conferences. show more »Dr. Narsimlu Kemsaram is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Artificial Intelligence at the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He holds Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD degrees in Computer Science. His research focuses on AI-enabled autonomy for robotic systems, with particular emphasis on multi-robot systems, swarm robotics, and aerial robotics (UAVs). He develops learning- and perception-driven methods that enable robots to operate collaboratively and robustly in complex real-world environments, bridging algorithmic innovation with deployable robotic platforms.During his PhD, he worked as an Assistant Researcher in the Department of Computer Science at Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg (University of Würzburg), Germany, contributing to the project “An Autonomous Sensor Network for the Detection and Observation of Meteors (ASMET)”, funded by the European Union Regional Development Fund (EU-RDF). Following his PhD, he was a Postdoctoral Researcher with the Mobile Perception Systems (MPS) Lab, Signal Processing Systems Group, Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), The Netherlands, where he worked on “integrated Cooperative Automated Vehicles (i-CAVE): Sensing, Mapping, and Localization”, supported by the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO). He then joined the Space Robotics (SpaceR) Group at the SnT Research Centre, University of Luxembourg, Luxembourg, as a Postdoctoral Research Associate. There, he contributed to EU-funded projects on multi-robot systems, multi-uavs, and multi-rovoers, including “Secure and Safe Multi-Robot Systems (SESAME)” (EU Horizon 2020) and “5G-Sky Drones” (Luxembourg National Research Fund, FNR CORE). Most recently, he was a Research Fellow in Multi-Robot Systems in the Department of Computer Science at University College London (UCL), London, United Kingdom, where he worked on “Swarm Spatial Sound Modulators (Swarm SSMs)”, funded through an EPSRC Prosperity Partnership and UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). This work strengthened his focus on scalable multi-robot systems and swarm intelligence, including perception, coordination, and distributed decision-making for cooperative robotic systems. show more »Dr. Lim Siew Huah is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Malaya (UM), where she specializes in Natural Products Chemistry and Bioorganic Chemistry. She earned her Ph.D. (2013), M.Sc. (2007), and B.Sc. (Hons.) (2004) from UM, and her research focuses on isolating and studying bioactive compounds from Malaysian plants, particularly alkaloids, for potential applications in health sciences and biotechnology. Dr. Lim has extensive experience in teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate students and has been actively involved in curriculum development. She teaches courses in organic chemistry and molecular spectroscopy, incorporating contemporary research findings into her teaching. She previously served as the Undergraduate Program Coordinator for the B.Sc. Chemistry program, where she oversaw academic planning and program improvements. In addition to lecturing, she supervises final-year undergraduate research projects (FYP) and mentors MSc and PhD students in organic and natural products chemistry, guiding them in phytochemical investigations and structural elucidation of bioactive compounds. Her research focuses on natural products chemistry, particularly the isolation, structural elucidation, and spectroscopic characterization of plant-derived secondary metabolites. She specializes in the study of alkaloids, employing advanced spectroscopic techniques such as nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and mass spectrometry to determine the structures of complex natural compounds. Her work extends to the chemical modification of natural products to understand their structure-activity relationships and enhance their potential applications. Her research explores the diverse flora of Malaysia to uncover bioactive natural compounds with potential therapeutic relevance. Investigations include the structural modification of natural products to explore their chemical properties and interactions, particularly in cancer-related studies, skin brightening effects, and other health-related applications. Through her work, she contributes to the advancement of natural products chemistry and its role in biomedical research.
