Amy Then is a senior lecturer at the Institute of Biological Sciences, University of Malaya. She obtained her Ph.D. in Fisheries Science from the Virginia Institute of Marine Science, USA in 2014. Amy’s research interests are highly diverse and focused on animal- environment-human interactions to inform meaningful, data-driven conservation and management efforts in the coastal and marine realms. Currently, she is working on broad topics of mangrove ecology, restoration and ecosystem services assessment, shark and ray fishery assessment, marine megafauna bycatch and linkages between marine protected area and the well-being of both ecosystems and humans. She co-developed a number of successfully funded local and international proposals that were highly interdisciplinary in the last six years with funding from the Global Challenges Research Fund, Newton Fund, and British Council. To successfully deliver these projects, she had been actively using multiple science and social science approaches and with relevant stakeholder engagements at varying levels. In addition to scientific contributions in high-impact journals that included Scientific Reports, Frontiers in Ecology and Evolution, and Ecosystems, she also has diverse experiences in organizing international meetings, including the Third International Symposium on Mangroves as Fish Habitat (MAFH3).
show more »Dr. Mohd Nur Ashraf bin Mohd Yusoff is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Universiti Malaya. He holds Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (2014), Master of Engineering Science (M.Eng.Sc) (2018), and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Energy (2024), all from Universiti Malaya, Malaysia. Dr. Ashraf specializes in fuel engineering and tribology, with a primary research focus on sustainable fuel technologies for internal combustion engines. His work explores alternative fuels, biofuel applications, and tribological performance enhancements, contributing to the advancement of clean energy solutions. During his studies, he has actively worked with industry leaders, including the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) and DUCOM India, engaging in research on biofuels, fuel tribology, and lubricant performance optimization. His research findings have been published in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals, reflecting his commitment to academic excellence and scientific contributions in the field of sustainable energy and transportation. Dr. Ashraf remains dedicated to interdisciplinary research, industry engagement, and the supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students, aligning his work with global efforts to reduce carbon emissions and enhance energy efficiency in combustion technologies.
show more »Dr. Tahmina Akhter is a Senior Lecturer in Finance at the Faculty of Business and Economics, Universiti Malaya. She holds a PhD in Finance from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. Her research spans behavioural finance, sustainable finance, energy economics, fintech, and financial wellbeing. She is currently leading and contributing to projects on financial resilience and retirement planning, clean energy transition and critical mineral dependency, corporate ESG practices, and fintech adoption. Her work applies advanced empirical methods to address contemporary challenges in financial behaviour and sustainability. With over 12 years of academic experience, she is committed to developing future leaders in finance and banking.
