Cardiovascular pharmacology with a focus on signal transduction pathways regulating vasoconstriction and vasorelaxation, and the interplay between the gut microbiome and cardiovascular diseases (e.g., hypertension and vascular dysfunction). Techniques include tissue/organ bath experiments, calcium assays, Western blotting, toxicity assays and next-generation sequencing (NGS) for microbiome profiling.

Dr. Fung Shin Yee is a biochemist, receiving her degree from the University of Malaya. She actively pursues her interest in natural compounds focusing on medicinal mushrooms. She obtained her PhD in Molecular Medicine in 2008 (Universiti Malaya) embarking on a joint project with University of Siena, Italy and is a recipient of a fellowship from the Embassy of Italy in Malaysia (2003-2004). DR. SHAMEER BIN HISHAM
Originally trained as a synthetic polymer chemist specialising in living anionic polymerisation of methacrylates, Shameer went beyond that to tailoring azobenzene-functionalised molecules and studying their photoisomerisation dynamics. Now, he is working on incorporating these photoswitches in various matrices to make new and interesting smart materials. Occasionally he can be found experimenting with organic emitters and hiking in his leisure time to remain cool under fire.
