Siti Zaidah Zainuddin is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of English Language. Her primary research interests lie in discourse studies, particularly genre analysis in both written and spoken academic discourse and corpus linguistics. In the field of language learning, she works on second language writing using several perspectives and frameworks as well teacher-learner interaction. Her publications address various topics on academic discourse practices including language and rhetorical strategies in oral defense and thesis writing by postgraduate students, and teacher agency. Zaidah holds several research grants focusing on genre studies in academic and legal discourses and teacher’s agency in language classrooms. She teaches both the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. In addition to teaching and research, Zaidah has served as a UG program coordinator, Industrial Training coordinator for the English Language Department and the coordinator and consultant for various language programs with private organisations.
show more »Finding patterns of variation in biology fascinating, I chose to study genetics and molecular biology in Universiti Malaya, graduating in 2002 with first class honours. Subsequently, I turned to the roots of the study of patterns of variation - statistics, receiving my MSc in statistics from Universiti Malaya in 2005. I completed my PhD in statistics at the National University of Singapore in 2009. Since 2010, I have been with Universiti Malaya. Currently, I am an associate professor at the Institute of Mathematical Sciences, and a fellow of the Royal Statistical Society, UK. My research interest broadly covers the area of data science, machine learning, bioinformatics, ecology, and medical statistics. Since 2010, I have worked in over 20 projects as the principal consultant statistician, and conducted numerous workshops on statistics, bioinformatics, and R programming. Presently, I head the UM Centre for Data Analytics, which focuses on establishing collaborative research and engagement between the industry and the academia in Malaysia. I enjoy reading, travelling, nature walks, and more recently, engaging fellow scientists in Twitter space.
show more »Dr Zulaikha currently serves as Senior Lecturer and Clinical Medical Physicist at the Clinical Oncology Department, UMMC. She previously worked as Medical Physicist in Hospital University of Science Malaysia (HUSM) for 3-years before joining UMMC in 2010. She received her PhD in Clinical Oncology Physics in 2021 from the Faculty of Medicine, University Malaya. As clinical physicist and a lecturer in a teaching hospital, she is responsible on producing high quality radiotherapy treatment planning for oncology patients; perform dose measurement and quality assurance check on radiotherapy modalities while being involved with various clinical improvement technique, research and academic teaching related to Medical Physics and Oncology services. Her main expertise and research covers all applications related to brachytherapy, stereotactic body radiotherapy, in vivo dosimetry, hybrid treatment planning and radiobiology of hypo-fractionated treatment, while being the author and co-author for number of publications related to her field of expertise.
