ASSOCIATE PROF. DR. MASTURA BINTI ADAM

Dr. Mastura Adam PRBr is a Graduate Architect under the Malaysian Board of Architects (Lembaga Arkitek Malaysia) and a member of the Malaysian Urban Design Association (Perekabandar). She has 29 years of experience as a lecturer in the Department of Architecture at the Faculty of Built Environment, Universiti Malaya. Her teaching subjects encompass Architectural Design Studio for both undergraduate (LAM Part 1 and RIBA part 1) and postgraduate (LAM Part 2 and RIBA part 2) levels, Urban Design, Architectural Graphic Communication, History in Architecture, Measured Drawings, Culture and Context, Comparative Studies, and Research Theory and Philosophy for postgraduate students. Dr. Mastura has conducted international collaborative research with the Nippon Foundation under the ASEAN University Network-Disability and Public Policy (AUNDPPnet), focusing on inclusive learning environments. This research was further extended for the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education. From 2018 to 2024, she has served in 7 consecutive years as a program leader with AUNDPPnet, training persons with disabilities (PWD) resource persons and access audit inspectors in the Accessibility and Universal Design Training Course. This program has produced approximately 162 alumni among the PWDs from 10 ASEAN countries. She has published books, book chapters, and journal articles, and has been involved in consulting work related to architectural design, urban design, sustainable development, urban planning, universal design, and architectural education. Dr. Mastura has supervised numerous Ph.D. and Master by Research students in the fields of Architecture and Urban Planning, as well as Master in Architecture (LAM Part 2 and RIBA Part 2) candidates. In her professional recognition, Dr. Mastura has contributed to local authority initiatives, including the Urban Design and Walkability Study and Place Making Study. She was appointed as an Urban Design consultant by City Hall Kuala Lumpur from 2015 to 2016 and Kerajaan Negeri Pahang for Penanda Aras Premis Mesra OKU ke Australia in 2024. In acknowledgment of her contributions to urban design, she served as a board member for Perekabandar from 2020 to 2022, promoting good urban design for Malaysian cities and sharing her expertise in the Urban Design Master Class Series.

PROF. DR. NOOR HAYATY BINTI ABU KASIM

Noor Hayaty is a professor at the Department of Restorative Dentistry, Faculty of Dentistry, University of Malaya. She has 26 years of experience in a variety of research, teaching, management and leadership roles at the University of Malaya. She is currently the Dean of Wellness Research Cluster (WRC), where she facilitates an interdisciplinary network of researchers involved in a broad range of research and innovation. Her research interests include biomaterials, regenerative medicine, clinical dentistry and ageing. Her experience in biomaterials, regenerative medicine and clinical dentistry were the foundation for her involvement in ageing research. At WRC, she spearheads the ‘Active Ageing Grand Challenge Programme’ under which specific areas such as ‘Independent Living, were established to promote the concept of active ageing in Malaysia. She is currently leading a research project entitled ‘Dental Care Pathway for Geriatric Population in Selected ASEAN Countries’ where her team is working closely with the Oral Health Division, Ministry of Health to improve the quality of dental care for older people. Together with collaborators from the Faculty of Computer Science, she is also interested to create supportive environment that could contribute to the quality of life and better living for the elderly population by employing assistive technologies. She is the past-president of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR), Southeast Asian Division and she has contributed towards promoting dental research through IADR Regional Development Program in countries such as Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Myanmar and Cambodia.

ASSOCIATE PROF. DR. WEY MANG CHEK

AP Dr. Wey Mang Chek graduated with Bachelor of Dental Surgery (University of Malaya, 1991) to serve in 3 different private clinics in the urban and suburban areas for 6 years. Following an Oral Maxillofacial Residency at University of Malaya, she obtained Fellowship in Dental Surgery (Royal College of Surgeons of England, 1998), and after practising in the private, taught at University of Malaya in Jan 2000, and continued postgraduate training in Orthodontics at University of Hong Kong (2003) and obtained Master of Orthodontics, MOrth (Hong Kong) in 2005, then Membership in Orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (2006). She was subsequently awarded the Fellowship in Dental Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (2015). She started as Senior Lecturer in 2007 and then Associate Professor in 2017 and until now have taught the Bachelor of Dental Surgery undergraduate program and the Master of Orthodontics postgraduate program full time for 21 years. Having supervised 6 postgraduate and 12 undergraduate research projects to completion, with 2 on-going postgraduate research projects, she has a wide scope of research interest including growth modification with functional appliances, dentofacial deformities, orthodontic treatment need, teeth erosion, temporary anchorage devices, oral health of special groups, facial morphology, self-ligating orthodontic appliances, micro-osteoperforation in accelerating orthodontic tooth movement, sleep apnea, dental education, stem cell research and Class III management Her recognition in research include receiving numerous awards including the Unilever Award In Hong Kong (2006), College Of Dental Surgeons Of Hong Kong Outstanding Poster Award (2007), Overall Winner for Dentsply Table Clinic International Association For Dental Research Malaysia Division and Runner-up Oral Presentation Winner (2008), Best Poster Presentation at the 36th Asia Pacific Dental Students Association Congress (2009), First Prize Poster Presentation at the 3rd National Dental Students Scientific Conference, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (2011), 2nd Runner-up Poster Competition at the 38th Asia Pacific Dental Students Association Congress, Bangkok, Thailand (2011), ICID 2015 Second Prize Oral Presentation (2015), 1st Winner Research Oral Presentation at the 10th Asia Pacific Orthodontic Conference & 11th Indonesian Association Of Orthodontists Annual Meeting (2016), 3rd Prize Award (Poster), Consolation Prize Award Overall Category at the 17th Dental Students' Scientific Conference 2016, Faculty Of Dentistry, University Of Malaya, Oral Presentation Competition Winner at the Malaysian Association of Orthodontists’ International Scientific Conference and Trade Exhibition (2019) and top 10% Researcher of Faculty of Dentistry 2020. She currently has 18 publications, 16 ISI-indexed. She is a reviewer for 4 international ISI journals and 3 national journals. She has been invited as external examiner for Royal Colleges of England and Glasgow, Master and PhD postgraduate programs at University of Malaya and UiTM and judge for poster and oral competitions at conferences. She has held the post of Chairperson of the Scientific Reviewers’ Panel for Asia Pacific Orthodontic Conference in 2014. She was part of the UMRG grant panel review.
