Dr. Syed Bahari Ramadzan Bin Syed Adnan is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Physics Department, Faculty of Science. He completed his Ph.D. in the subject of Material Science. His research is dedicated to advancing inorganic materials for energy storage applications. He specializes in ceramic electrolytes and electrodes for lithium-ion, sodium-ion, and magnesium-ion batteries, with a particular focus on sustainable materials. His research has garnered significant attention, evidenced by over 556 citations, an h-index of 14, and an i10-index of 24 on Google Scholar (as of 2024). This impact is further solidified by a publication record of 39 research papers, a granted research patent (A method for synthesizing nano ionic sodium zinc silicate"), and the successful acquisition of six research grants (as Principal Investigator) from Universiti Malaya (RU grants) and the Malaysian government (FRGS). Notably, his research on developing a clay-based battery electrolyte also received media coverage in 2023, highlighting its public significance. He has also excelled in research competitions, securing two gold medals in the Material Technology Challenge 7.0 and Pre-University Matriculation Innovation Competition in 2022, and a bronze medal in the Invention, Innovation, and Design Exposition (iiDeX) in 2015 and 2022. Beyond research, he has  been actively involved in the society and academic community, serving in roles such as Committee Member in Institute Fizik Malaysia, Member of Malaysian Solid-State Science and Technology as well as in the National STEM Association and Associated Chief Editor in an international STEM journal.His leadership experience, including serving as Deputy Director (Research and Development,2017-2022) and Acting Director in PASUM (2018), as well as participation in numerous department and faculty committees, demonstrates his contributions to the university and the broader community. This engagement, combined with awards like the Excellence Service Award in 2018 and 2021, attest to the recognition of his contributions. Moreover, his involvement in local and international collaborations as well as industry attachments demonstrates his ability to secure external funding and potential for future research excellence.

  Dr Sarinder was awarded a Bachelor of Computer Science in 2000 and a Master in Computer Science in 2002 from the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, University Malaya (UM). She then completed her Ph.D. in Bioinformatics at the Faculty of Science, University of Malaya in 2007. Currently, she is an Associate Professor in the same department. Dr. Sarinder has been very active in teaching, supervision, publication, research, and administration. She has taught courses such as Introduction to Database Systems, Advanced Database and Big Data, Programming in Bioinformatics, Data Analytics in Biology, Algorithms and Tools in Bioinformatics, and Computing at Master and undergraduate levels. She is also the Principal Investigator of the Data Science & Bioinformatics Laboratory at UM which has a team of both local and international collaborators from the University Malaya Medical Centre, UM Cancer Institute, Monash University Malaya, University of Cambridge, and the University of Saskatchewan. Dr. Sarinder’s main research interest is managing, representing, and analyzing scientific data using computational tools and techniques. Her contribution towards these projects is mostly in building digital systems using visual analytics, databases, and data science techniques. Currently, she is engaged in a project on Electronic Medical Records (EMR) at the University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC), mainly in building the Breast Cancer Digital Ecosystem using scientifically driven clinical informatics solutions for efficient clinical workflow. Dr Sarinder is also working with genome scientists from the College of Pharmacy and Nutrition, University of Saskatchewan to develop a framework for finding novel therapeutics for metastatic cancer using bioinformatics tools and algorithms.  Dr Sarinder is on the Editorial Board of BMC Bioinformatics, BMC Medical Informatics, and Decision Making and an Associate Editor of the Malaysian Journal of Science (MJS). She was also the chair of the International Symposium on Biomedical Data Infrastructure 2013 and 4th Data Analytics in Biomedicine Workshop (DAB 2013) organized by IEEE. Dr Sarinder was also a Visiting Scholar at the Computer Laboratory, University of Cambridge, UK, and a Visiting Professor and External Examiner for the Bachelor of Bioinformatics (Hons) Program at Management and Science University (MSU), Malaysia. She is on the MQA Panel of Assessors for Multimedia University and International Medical University Malaysia.  Dr Sarinder is an exco-member of Asia Pacific Bioinformatics Network and an auditor for the Malaysian Society of Bioinformatics. She has recently been appointed as a Consultant by Sigma Teguh Sdn Bhd for Big Data and Machine Learning Algorithms projects. Jiankun Gong publishes on application of media effects theories in the digital context, emerging communication technologies, and computational social science.  He is  also focusing on health communication and how (social) media helps to communicate health and science.  Also, he has interests in migration and student mobility studies. His works have been published at Digital Journalism, Social Media + Society, Journalism among others. He serves as associate editor, peer reviewer at various journals, conferences (ICA, NCA etc.).
