Dr Azlida obtained her Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Malaya (UM) in 2008. After working with the Ministry of Health for over two years, she became a trainee lecturer at the University of Malaya (UM) in 2010. She then earned a Master's in Dental Public Health (DPH) from Queen Mary, University of London, along with a Diploma in Dental Public Health from the Royal College of Surgeons (England) in 2011. She enrolled for a PhD programme at Cardiff University in 2014 and completed it in 2017. Her PhD project won the prestigious Roger Anderson Prize from The British Association for the Study of Community Dentistry. Dr Azlida is currently an Associate Professor and a registered dental public health specialist in Malaysia. She teaches and supervises students in both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. In the early years of her academic career, she held the position of undergraduate coordinator. From 2020 onward, she assumed the role of Postgraduate Coordinator (Master of Community Oral Health) and is currently spearheading the Doctor of Dental Public Health (DrDPH) programme at the Faculty of Dentistry, UM. Continuing to enhance her credentials, she obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Education (with distinction) from the University of South Wales, UK, and was awarded a Fellowship in Dental Education from the Faculty of Dental Trainers, the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2023. She possesses a commendable record of publications in ISI/Scopus-indexed journals and has actively participated as a reviewer for numerous publications. Her accomplishments include receiving awards for research, education, and innovation on both national and international platforms. Her research pursuits range from preventive dentistry and oral epidemiology to dental education. In recent years, she has taken a proactive approach by publishing in mass media to share insights about dentistry and promote oral disease prevention with the general public. She is also actively engaged with the Malaysian Ministry of Health (MOH) and has assumed roles as a committee member for the National Oral Health Plan (2021-2030), an expert involved in reviewing the National Fluoride Guideline, and a consultant assessing oral health promotion activities. Additionally, she served as a council member for the Malaysian Association of Dental Public Health Specialists (MADPHS) for the 2022-2024 term.
show more »Dr. Siti Idayu Hasan is a Senior Lecturer in the Family Health Discipline at the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya. After completing her PhD, she embarked on a significant journey as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at UMCAS, collaborating with the International Tobacco Control project team in Canada. Her work focused on measuring the psychosocial and behavioral impact of key national-level policies under the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC). She is a Fellow of Hong Kong WHO Collaborating Centre (Tobacco Control) and Committee Member of Scientific Tobacco Working Group (WHO FCTC Malaysia). Continuing her career, Dr. Siti Idayu became the Impact Project Manager at UMCares. In this role, she led the development and management of frameworks to monitor, evaluate, and enhance the effectiveness of community-oriented projects. Her efforts have been pivotal in ensuring that these initiatives bring about meaningful and sustainable improvements in society. Dr. Siti Idayu’s current research themes include tobacco control, mental health, and impact evaluation. Her work in tobacco control encompasses projects like Smoking Cessation, Organizing, Planning, and Execution (SCOPE), Generational Endgame (GEG), and the International Tobacco Control (ITC) project. She is also deeply involved in mental health research, aiming to address and mitigate mental health issues within the community. Beyond her research, Dr. Siti Idayu consults in the expanding field of public health, with a particular focus on tobacco control and mental health. She enjoys engaging with the community through health promotion activities, such as the Generational Endgame initiative, conducted in various settings (i.e. workplace, school and public) to raise awareness and drive positive behavioral change. Dr. Siti Idayu's commitment to improving public health is unwavering. Her work is not just about research and academia; it’s about making a tangible difference in the lives of individuals and communities. She believes that through collaborative efforts and a deep-seated commitment to health promotion, we can create a healthier, more resilient future for everyone. show more »Dr Yap joined academic life as a senior lecturer in Faculty Languages and Linguistics at the Universiti Malaya in 2016. She was a Programme coordinator of the Chinese Programme at the Department of Malaysian Languages and Applied Linguistics (2017-2018). She completed her Doctoral programme (Applied Linguistics) at the Minzu University of China, Beijing; her Masters of Modern Languages and Linguistics; BA (Chinese Language Studies) and Dip. Education (Chinese Pedagogy) at the Universiti Malaya. Her main research interests are Global Chinese in general, Teaching Chinese as a Second language (CSL) in particular, attitudes, motivations and identities towards and among CSL learners, and the implications of the spread of the Chinese Language. Her teaching interests are broadly within Global Chinese, such as Chinese Specific Purpose (CSP) in Mass Media, Chinese Text Analysis, Chinese Research Methodology and Chinese Language Structure. She is appointed chairperson by the Educational Resources and Technology Division of the Malaysian Ministry of Education for the revision of the Secondary School Standard Curriculum Textbook(since 2019 till now). She especially welcomes proposals for PhD or Master research projects on any aspect of Global Chinese, areas of particular interest include Chinese as a Second language (CSL), Language ideological debates relating to Global Chinese, Intelligibility issues relating to the spread of Chinese Language, Attitudes and Motivation towards CSL, Chinese language Teaching in higher education contexts around the world, Chinese Specific Purpose (CSP) in Mass media, and Chinese language structure-Chinese syntax, especially Systemic Functional Grammar (SFG).
