Dr. Burhan Ul Islam Khan is an academic and researcher serving as a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, Universiti Malaya, Malaysia, ranked 56th globally in the QS World University Rankings 2027. He holds a Ph.D. in Engineering from the International Islamic University Malaysia, where his research focused on developing a scalable mobile-based offline time-based one-time password (TOTP) authentication prototype to enhance security and usability for Internet banking and premium web applications. He has authored over 80 scientific publications, including indexed journal articles, book chapters and conference papers, attracting more than 1,400 citations. He has presented his research at reputable international conferences in India, the United Kingdom, France and Malaysia. His research has also led to patent-protected innovations in Malaysia and India. The innovativeness and industrial applicability of his prototypes have been recognised with gold and bronze medals from the Malaysian Invention and Design Society (MINDS) and the Malaysian Association of Research Scientists (MARS), respectively. Dr. Khan has taught security-related courses at graduate and postgraduate levels and currently supervises three Ph.D. candidates. He also provides reviewer and editorial services for journals published by IEEE, Springer, Elsevier, MDPI and Wiley/Hindawi.
