Zuraidah Mohd Don has built up a balanced academic profile, and has not only developed strengths in research and publication and in teaching, but has also contributed to the university s third mission to the local community, especially in early education.
Her research covers a wide field centred on the study of language, ranging from pragmatics, discourse analysis and critical discourse analysis to corpus linguistics, language structure and English Language Teaching. She aims to use linguistic expertise to make a positive contribution to the outside world. She has collaborated extensively with researchers in other disciplines, including computer studies and engineering, and has acted as consultant to MIMOS and other local companies in connection with the development of technologies for Malay. She has over 100 publications, including contributions to the prestigious Journal of Pragmatics, IEICE Transactions, and Text and Talk
Through her work in English Language Teaching, she has developed close links with the Ministry of Higher Education, and has headed research projects concerned with investigating standards of English among staff and students in Malaysian public universities. This work has led to the recognition of the need to focus attention on the early stages of learning.
