With educational background in both the sciences and the humanities, Sim has been in the education industry for more than 30 years. Sim graduated with a BSc (Chemistry) & Ed (Hons) from the University of Science Malaysia, a LLB (Hons) from the University of Wolverhampton, a MEd (Distinction) and a PhD, both from the University of Malaya. An advocate of life-long learning, Sim began her academic career as a high school chemistry teacher and later moved to a matriculation college as a chemistry lecturer.She joined University of Malaya in 2012 as a senior lecturer and is currently attached to Medical Education and Research Development Unit (MERDU), Faculty of Medicine.In MERDU, she is involved in developing and implementing the University of Malaya Medical Programme, managing assessments of the new medical curriculum, and conducting assessment workshops for medical teachers. She is also involved in facilitating problem-based learning sessions for preclinical students.More recently, she is teaching courses like Research Methodology as well as Assessment and Evaluation, for Masters in Medical Education.Her scholarly interests and expertise revolve around science education and medical education, with a focus on assessment, learning and cognition, psychology, pedagogy, and problem-based learning.Sim has published papers in academic journals in both science education and medical education, as well as presented papers at various local and international conferences. Sim sits on the review committee of several international journals and is a member of the Oxford Advisory Board for matriculation chemistry textbooks. She is an associate member of the Malaysian Institute of Chemistry and a registered chemist.Sim was a recipient of awards such as Best Conference Paper Award (2010), University of Malaya Excellence Award (2011), Association of Commonwealth Universities Fellowship Award (2018), among others.
