Associate Professor Datin Dr Sharmilla Kanagasundram works as a consultant psychiatrist and an associate professor at University Malaya and Pusat Perubatan University Malaya. Her specialties include treatment of mood disorders, psychotic disorders and anxiety disorders. She teaches undergraduates and postgraduates in the discipline of psychological medicine. She has also taken part in multiple international clinical trials and has published in many peer reviewed journals.

Associate Professor Datin Dr Sharmilla has been the undergraduate MBBS coordinator for all the stages of the MBBS course in University Malaya since July 2017 to December 2019. She restarted her duties from August 2022 till present.

Associate Professor Datin Dr Sharmilla also obtained a second masters degree from UCSI in regenerative medicine, healthy ageing and aesthetic medicine.
