DR. MOHD HAFIZ BIN MOHD SAADON

    Dr Mohd Hafiz bin Mohd Saadon is an astrophysicist and an astronomer. He received his BSc (Hons.) in Applied Physics (2009) and MSc in Astronomy (2014) at University Malaya. Later, he was awarded the Doctorate Degree (PhD) specializing in Astrophysics at the University of New South Wales in 2021. The area of expertise also includes Islamic astronomy and specializing in galactic archaeology, astronomical spectroscopy, galactic and stellar formation and evolution, and stellar chemical behaviour. Dr Mohd Hafiz is experienced in using big data analysis for the research and the study of chemical behavioural patterns in stellar clusters and galactic populations.

PROF. DR. NAZIRAH BINTI HASNAN

Nazirah Hasnan was born and received her early education in Petaling Jaya Selangor, Malaysia. She completed her undergraduate (MBBS) and postgraduate training in rehabilitation medicine (MRehabMed) from the Universiti Malaya in 1993 and 2001 respectively. She then became a specialist and lecturer at her alma mater and completed a PhD in Rehabilitation (Spinal Cord Medicine), graduating in 2014 under the Universiti Malaya – University of Sydney Joint Doctorate (Co-tutelle) program. She has supervised more than 20 Masters and PhD students, and published over 80 scientific publications. She stands as a luminary in the field of Rehabilitation Medicine, whose extensive career and academic achievements have significantly contributed to medical advancements, particularly in Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation, Wound Management, Functional Electrical Stimulation, Exercise for Special Population and Assistive Technology. Her career, marked by dedication to both clinical practice and academic research, exemplifies the impactful intersection of medicine, technology, and education. Her leadership skills has driven the development of specialized rehabilitation services; stroke rehabilitation, spinal cord injury rehabilitation, diabetic foot care and wound management; and expansion of other services, CReATE@ PPUM being the latest. Professor Nazirah's professional trajectory is marked by significant appointments, reflecting her leadership and expertise in rehabilitation medicine. She has been a Consultant Rehabilitation Physician at Pusat Perubatan Universiti Malaya (PPUM), Malaysia’s premier and leading academic medical centre since 2001 and has held various key positions, including Deputy Director (Medical) and, most notably, the Director of PPUM since November 2020 until today. At the national academic and professional level, she is a member of the National Rehabilitation Medicine Conjoint Board, member of the Academy of Medicine, and member of the National Specialist Registry (NSR) Specialist Sub-Committee.  She is the immediate past President of Malaysian Association of Rehabilitation Physicians (MARP) and the President of Malaysian Chapter of the International Functional Electrical Stimulation Society. Professor Nazirah is an executive member of the Asian Spinal Cord Network (ASCoN), member of the Education Committee of the International Spinal Cord Society (ISCoS), previosuly the National leader for the International Spinal Cord Injury Survey, a Swiss Paraplegic Centre and World Health Organization project and member of the Capacity Building Committee of the International Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine-World Health Organisation. Outside academia, she has had extensive involvement and experience in project development, various networking with government and NGOs and has led many successful projects. Her dedication to community service is exemplified by her advisory roles in organizations supporting persons with disabilities (PWDs), such as the Malaysian Spinal Cord Injury Advocacy Association (MASAA), Diveheart Malaysia, OKU Sentral and previously Malaysian Spinal Injuries Association (MASIA) and Pet Positive. She has also been actively involved in initiatives promoting scuba diving for PWDs, showcasing her commitment to enhancing the quality of life for individuals through innovative and inclusive activities. Professor Nazirah Hasnan's career journey is a testament to the profound impact that dedicated healthcare professionals can have on advancing medical education and practice, improving patient outcomes and return to meaningful roles in the community. Her contributions to rehabilitation medicine, her leadership in academic and hospital management, and her commitment to community engagement illustrates the qualities of a true medical pioneer. ASSOCIATE PROF. DR. LIM EINLY

Dr. Lim Einly is an internationally recognized leader in cardiovascular biomedical engineering and currently serves as Associate Professor at the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Universiti Malaya. She is the founder and principal investigator of the Asian Cardiac Engineering Group, an interdisciplinary research team that advances personalized cardiovascular modeling, medical image analysis, physiological control of cardiac assist devices, and telehealth technologies. Her work has played a central role in bridging engineering innovation with clinical practice, contributing significantly to the convergence of medicine, engineering, and digital health. Dr. Lim earned her PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of New South Wales under the prestigious Australian EIPRS scholarship. She has authored over 70 Web of Science–indexed journal articles, secured more than RM3 million in competitive research funding, and received numerous accolades, including the Royal Society (UK) Newton Advanced Fellowship and the 2023 Chairpersonship Award from the Asia-Pacific Society for Artificial Organs (APSAO). In 2023, she chaired the 7th Annual APSAO International Congress in Kuala Lumpur, which brought together over 80 delegates from 9 countries—demonstrating her leadership in fostering international scientific collaboration and elevating Malaysia’s profile in cardiovascular research. A significant component of Dr. Lim’s academic leadership is her prominent role in establishing the Dual PhD program between Universiti Malaya and the University of New South Wales (UM-UNSW). She has been instrumental in shaping its structure, mentoring students across institutions, and nurturing cross-border research ecosystems. The program has allowed students to benefit from exposure to two world-class research environments. To date, four students have successfully graduated under this initiative, with three currently in progress—making it a sustainable model for international research training and capacity building. As a dedicated research mentor, Dr. Lim has supervised nine PhD and ten Master by Research students to completion and currently oversees seven PhD candidates working across advanced cardiovascular engineering topics. Her research team collaborates with global leaders including Imperial College London, University of Queensland, Texas Heart Institute, and the National University of Singapore. Her translational work, which includes two patents, extends to industry and clinical settings through active projects with B Braun Medical Industries and the National Heart Institute (IJN), among others. Dr. Lim also contributes substantially to university governance and academic quality. She serves as Final Year Project Coordinator and sits on key curriculum review, academic quality, and procurement committees. She regularly chairs PhD proposal and candidature defenses and serves as an external examiner at both local and international universities. She is also an active reviewer for national and international research grants, including for the Australian Research Council and Austrian Science Fund. As a Chartered Engineer (UK), Professional Engineer (Malaysia), and Council Member of The Asia-Pacific Society for Artificial Organs APSAO, Dr. Lim continues to lead in research, education, and professional service. Through her sustained contributions in innovation, academic leadership, and international engagement, she plays a vital role in advancing biomedical engineering across Malaysia and the Asia-Pacific region.
