BIOGRAPHY

Adibi M. Nor is a Senior Lecturer in the International Institute of Public Policy and Management, University of Malaya. His work focuses on the fisheries policy particularly, the sustainability of Kappaphycus seaweed commercialisation among Malaysian coastal communities and the impact of this activity on their livelihoods. He has over 15 years’ experience as a civil servant (fisheries officer) at the Department of Fisheries Malaysia. While much of his experience has been in the government sector, he has developed new skills as an interdisciplinary (integrating natural and social science) scientist. Dr Adibi was involved with the development of the national seaweed policy - in particular, to implement, monitor and evaluate this policy. He worked with local communities and governments and wrote reports in order to get community involvement and to disseminate findings. Dr Adibi has also developed an in-depth knowledge of various fisheries management themes: sustainable development strategies, governance, aquaculture management, community development, public policy analysis, case studies, developing countries, economic development, social studies, community organisation, and research methodologies. This breadth of experience has shaped his insights into the flow of make use of scientific-evidence in the policy-making process. He has published widely on seaweed/fisheries research related to policy, biology, and marketing aspects. Dr Adibi is a member of British Phycological Society, Institute of Fisheries Management and International Phycological Society. He was appointed as a reviewer for Botanica Marina and Journal of Southeast Asian Studies, University of Malaya in 2019 and 2018, respectively. Apart from that, he is also appointed as a scientific advisor and business development planner for the local aquaculture company. His publications and research areas can be accessed from https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Adibi_Nor
