DR. LIM YIN CHENG

Dr Lim graduated as a medical doctor from the University of Malaya in 2009. He completed his Master of Public Health in 2014 and continue with his Doctor of Public Health. He completed the DrPH in 2019 obtaining a distinction for his thesis, titled “Health impacts of night work among employees in Malaysia”. After graduation, he went back to the Ministry of Health and served in the Selangor State Health Department and the National Institute of Health Malaysia before joining University Malaya.
Currently, Dr Lim is employed as an occupational and public health physician in the University of Malaya. He is tasked to teach occupational medicine, medical surveillance, and fitness for work to medical undergraduates and postgraduates. He also manages patients in the occupational medical clinic at University Malaya Medical Centre.
A primary interest of Dr Lim relates to the influence of the circadian system on chronic disease and mental health in humans. He also studies shift work as a surrogate for exposure to light at night including related biomarkers for cancer, metabolic syndrome, and mental health. The most recent project of him as a Principal Investigator is to develop facial anthropometric data for Malaysians. The project worth more than USD85 thousand, which comprises 4000 participants from all over Malaysia. The study aimed to produce suitable respirators that fit the Malaysian population.
