BIOGRAPHY
Ts. Dr. Vengadaesvaran Balakrishnan is a certified Professional Technologist and senior academic at the University of Malaya, Malaysia, with over 15 years of experience in materials science, renewable energy, and advanced coating technologies. His research interests span renewable energy systems, polymer-based coatings, nanomaterials synthesis, and corrosion protection.He earned his B.Sc. (Hons), M.Tech., and Ph.D. in Materials Engineering from the University of Malaya, where he now contributes extensively to both teaching and research under the University of Malaya Power Energy Dedicated Advanced Centre (UMPEDAC). As an active researcher, Dr. Vengadaesvaran has published over 60 peer-reviewed journal articles and authored 10 book chapters in recent years. His work has been cited over 830 times, reflecting its impact across multiple scientific and industrial domains. He has also edited two academic books and filed three patents.Dr. Vengadaesvaran serves as the Director of VAN Coating Sdn. Bhd., a university spin-off company that translates laboratory innovations into commercial solutions for self-cleaning, antiviral, and energy-efficient coatings. His entrepreneurial role exemplifies his commitment to bridging research with real-world applications.Notable among his recent contributions are his works on antiviral and hydrophobic nanocoating’s, solar panel coatings, incorporation of rare-earth elements for improved performance coating and self-cleaning properties derived from natural polymers. His projects are frequently interdisciplinary and involve collaboration with industrial partners, government agencies, and international researchers.Recognized for his expertise, Dr. Vengadaesvaran is actively engaged in mentoring postgraduate students, leading funded research projects, and reviewing for several high-impact scientific journals. He is also a member of prominent professional bodies including the Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT), Materials Research Society, and the Institute of Materials Malaysia (IMM).Driven by a passion for sustainable materials and applied nanotechnology, Ts. Dr. Vengadaesvaran Balakrishnan continues to advance the frontiers of energy and environmental research in Malaysia and beyond.
