Biography | |
Lip Yee received his Ph.D. from University of Malaya, Malaysia under the supervision of Prof. Abdullah bin Gani in 2012. Currently, he is an Assoc. Professor at the Department of System and Computer Technology, Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, University of Malaya, Malaysia. He is also a senior member of IEEE. Lip Yee and his team were the first few pioneers who received IRPA, E-Science, FRGS, ERGS, PRGS, HIR and IIRG grants. He was the first person who managed to secure 2 E-Science funds with the role of PI in 2008. He was also the first person at the FCSIT who managed to secure the PRGS and ERGS grants. Beside collaborators from Malaysia, Lip Yee also has international collaborators from France, UK, New Zealand, Turkey, Hong Kong, Thailand and China. He also established his connection with his national and international collaborators with some industrial partners in Malaysia and other countries. Lip Yee is also famous for many awards winning. He has helped the faculty and the university to bag many medals from national and international exhibitions. The following are some prestige awards that he has won. He was the first person at the FCSIT who managed to win a Gold medal and 2 Silver medals at Seoul International Invention Fair (SIIF), Korea in 2012. He was the first person who won a Gold medal at PECIPTA 2008. This award was categorized under “best of the best” category in Information and Communication Technology (ICT). He was also the first person who won a Gold medal and the Best invention in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) at ITEX 2008. The Best invention in ICT award was given by POLAND. He was the first person from FCSIT who won Malaysia Asia Pacific ICT Awards (MSC Malaysia APICTA) in 2008. He was also the first person from FCSIT who won a Gold medal at Malaysia Technology Expo (MTE) in 2008. Besides, he was also the first person who won a Gold medal and the Best of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) at UMEXPO (Research, Invention and Innovation Exhibition, University of Malaya) in 2009. Lip Yee has published more than 60 academic papers in respectable journals. He was the first few pioneers who managed to publish within top 1% ranking ISI journals. He received a very good number of citations in Web of Science (H-index :15, 845 citations), Scopus (H-index: 17, 1062 citations), google scholars (H-index:22, 1671 citations) databases (last update: 1 Jan 2022).https://www.webofscience.com/wos/author/record/B-5309-2010 Lip Yee was also the first few pioneers who successfully filed a patent in FCSIT. Until now, e has filed up to 8 patents and all the patents were granted. For your information, he was the first person who obtained a granted patent in FCSIT. Lip Yee was appointed to the Editorial Board of Digital Public Health. He is currently an Associate Editor for Frontiers in Public Health (JCR2021-Q1) and Frontiers in Computer Science (JCR2021-Q4), as well as the Malaysian Journal of Computer Science (JCR2021-Q4). He also serves as a reviewer for several high-quality journals. He serves as an External Assessor for the Master of Computer Science programme at TARUC; Bachelor of Information Technology (Hons) Security Technology programme at Multimedia University; Bachelor of Computer Science (Hons) programme at HELP University; Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Computer Science and Specialisms program; Bachelor of Computer Science (Hons) Intelligent Systems; and Master of Sciences in Artificial Intelligence at Asia Pacific University. In terms of teaching, he has been voted for the favourite lecturer in FCSIT for several times. He is one of the lecturers that has the highest CTES scores in FCSIT every year. In general, his research interests are neural network (e.g. supervised and unsupervised learning methods such as support vector machine, extreme learning machine), bioinformatics (e.g. biosensors, pain research), computer security (e.g. information security, steganography, authentication (graphical password)), grid computing, and e-learning framework.
