Biography | |
Dr. Lip Yee, an esteemed Professor at the Department of System and Computer Technology within the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology at the Universiti Malaya, Malaysia, earned his Ph.D. from the Universiti Malaya under the mentorship of Prof. Abdullah bin Gani in 2012. He is also a senior member of the IEEE. Since then, Dr. Por has made significant contributions to academia, research, and industry. Dr. Por's research endeavors have been at the forefront of technological advancement, particularly in the domains of security and quality assurance of information (NEC 2020: 0611) and machine learning (NEC 2020: 0613). His research interests include machine learning, support vector machines, deep learning, long-short-term memory, computer vision, AIoT, IoT, blockchain, authentication, graphic passwords, PIN-entry, cryptography, data hiding, steganography, and watermarking. His pioneering work has garnered recognition both nationally and internationally, with over 100 academic papers published in reputable journals. Notably, he was among the first few pioneers to publish in the top 1% of ISI journals, with commendable citations across platforms such as Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar. He has successfully secured numerous grants, including IRPA, E-Science, FRGS, ERGS, PRGS, HIR, and IIRG grants. Dr. Por and his team were the first few pioneers to receive IRPA, E-Science, FRGS, ERGS, PRGS, HIR, and IIRG grants. He was the first person to manage to secure two E-Science funds with the role of PI in 2008. He was also the first person at the FCSIT who managed to secure the PRGS and ERGS grants, amounting to over RM 3.55 million in funding (internal grant: RM 1.55 million, external grant: RM 2.0 million) (last update: August 16, 2023). Furthermore, his strategic vision and collaborative spirit have led to fruitful partnerships with esteemed institutions and industrial partners, both domestically and internationally, including France, the UK, New Zealand, Turkey, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Thailand, and China. Dr. Por's commitment to academic excellence extends beyond research. He has been recognized as a favorite lecturer within the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, consistently achieving high scores in teaching evaluations. Moreover, his involvement in various editorial roles, including Associate Editorships for prestigious journals such as the Editorial Board of Digital Public Health, Associate Editor for Frontiers in Public Health (JCR2021-Q1), Frontiers in Computer Science (JCR2021-Q4), Malaysian Journal of Computer Science (JCR2021-Q4), and Guest Editor for a special issue: Cryptography and Information Security under Applied Sciences (JCR2021-Q2), underscores his dedication to advancing scholarly discourse. Dr. Por is also renowned for winning numerous awards. He has helped the faculty and the university win many medals from national and international exhibitions. Some prestigious awards he has won include being the first person at the FCSIT to win a Gold medal and two Silver medals at the Seoul International Invention Fair (SIIF), Korea, in 2012. He was the first person to win a Gold medal at PECIPTA 2008, categorized under the “best of the best” category in Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Additionally, he was the first person to win a Gold medal and the Best Invention in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) award at ITEX 2008, with the Best Invention in ICT award given by Poland. Dr. Por was also the first person from FCSIT to win the Malaysia Asia Pacific ICT Awards (MSC Malaysia APICTA) in 2008, and he won a Gold medal at the Malaysia Technology Expo (MTE) in 2008. Moreover, he was the first person to win a Gold medal and the Best of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) at UMEXPO (Research, Invention, and Innovation Exhibition, University of Malaya) in 2009. Dr. Por was also one of the first few pioneers to successfully file a patent in FCSIT. To date, he has filed up to eight patents, all of which have been granted. He was the first person to obtain a granted patent in FCSIT. As a testament to his leadership and expertise, Dr. Por has been appointed to key roles in international conferences and editorial boards. He has served as the Local Chair for the 3rd International Conference on Advanced Algorithms and Signal Image Processing (AASIP 2023) and the International Conference on Communication Security and Information Processing (CSIP 2024) and held Organizing Committee Chair positions for the 5th International Conference on Frontiers Technology of Information and Computer (ICFTIC 2023), the 3rd International Conference on Electronic Information Engineering and Data Processing (EIEDP) 2024, and the International Conference on Computer and Multimedia Technology (ICCMT 2024). Additionally, he has significantly contributed as a Session Chair for prestigious conferences such as the 30th International Conference on Computational and Experimental Engineering and Sciences (ICCES 2024). He serves as an External Assessor for the Master of Computer Science program at TARUC, the Bachelor of Information Technology (Hons) Security Technology program at Multimedia University, the Bachelor of Computer Science (Hons) program at HELP University, the Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Computer Science and Specialisms program, the Bachelor of Computer Science (Hons) Intelligent Systems, and the Master of Sciences in Artificial Intelligence program at Asia Pacific University. |
