BIOGRAPHY


Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ninie Suhana Abdul Manan is a lecturer and researcher at Universiti Malaya, specializing in the fields of electrochemistry, advanced materials, and ionic liquids. She holds a PhD from Queen's University Belfast. Her PhD work focuses on exploring the intricacies of electrochemical behaviors in ionic liquids, particularly concerning inorganic species such as sulfur, mercury, and rare-earth elements (Lanthanides). Since then, Dr. Abdul Manan's extensive research portfolio centers around electroanalytical chemistry, with a particular emphasis on projects involving ionic liquids and their applications in environmental sciences. She is actively involved in the development of cutting-edge sensor technologies, including non-enzymatic biosensors and novel electrode surface modifications for the detection of various analytes. Additionally, her work encompasses the exploration of advanced materials for energy harvesting activity. Dr. Abdul Manan actively collaborates with national and international research groups, as well as industrial partners. A significant highlight in her journey was a research partnership in 2017 with Lynas (M) Sdn. Bhd., concentrating on the development of ionic liquid-based methods for heavy rare-earth element extraction, with the noble intention of minimizing acid consumption during the stripping process. Alongside her academic pursuits, she contributes significantly to her department by serving on various task forces, reflecting her commitment to academic excellence and leadership.
