BIOGRAPHY


Profile: Dr. Narsimlu Kemsaram is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Artificial Intelligence, Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He holds Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD degrees in Computer Science.

His research lies at the intersection of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, with a particular focus on AI-enabled autonomous robotic systems, multi-robot systems, swarm robotics, and aerial robotics. His work develops learning-, perception-, planning-, and control-driven methods that enable robots and robotic teams to operate collaboratively, robustly, and autonomously in complex real-world environments. His broader research vision is to advance scalable, intelligent, and deployable robotic systems for applications such as industrial and manufacturing (AGVs), inspection and surveillance (Autonomous Vehicles), connected precision agriculture (Agriculture Robots), medical and surgical robotics (Medical Robots), human–robot interaction (Cobots), search and rescue robots (Autonomous UAVs), military and defense robots (UGVs/Robodogs/UAVs), underwater robots (AUVs) and mars exploration rovers (autonomous space rovers).

During his PhD, Dr. Kemsaram served as an Assistant Researcher in the Department of Computer Science at Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg, Germany. He contributed to the project “An Autonomous Sensor Network for the Detection and Observation of Meteors (ASMET)”, funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), where he worked on autonomous sensing and distributed robotic perception systems.

Following his PhD, he was a Postdoctoral Researcher with the Mobile Perception Systems Lab, Signal Processing Systems Group, Eindhoven University of Technology, The Netherlands. There, he contributed to the project “Integrated Cooperative Automated Vehicles (i-CAVE): Sensing, Mapping, and Localisation”, supported by the Dutch Research Council (NWO). His work focused on perception, mapping, and localisation methods for cooperative automated vehicles.

He subsequently joined the Space Robotics Group at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust, University of Luxembourg, as a Postdoctoral Research Associate. In this role, he contributed to EU- and FNR-funded projects on secure and safe multi-robot systems, multi-UAV coordination, and multi-rover autonomy, including “Secure and Safe Multi-Robot Systems (SESAME)” under the EU Horizon 2020 programme and “5G-Sky Drone” funded by the Luxembourg National Research Fund.

Prior to joining the University of Malaya, Dr. Kemsaram was a Research Fellow in Multi-Robot Systems in the Department of Computer Science at University College London, United Kingdom. At UCL, he worked on “Swarm Spatial Sound Modulators (Swarm SSMs)”, funded through an EPSRC Prosperity Partnership/UK Research and Innovation programme. This work further strengthened his research in scalable multi-robot systems, swarm intelligence, distributed coordination, and cooperative robotic decision-making.

At the University of Malaya, Dr. Kemsaram is building an interdisciplinary research programme in Robotics and AI, focusing on autonomous multi-robot and aerial robotic systems that integrate perception, learning, planning, control, and real-world deployment. His long-term academic goal is to contribute to the advancement of intelligent robotic autonomy through high-impact research, competitive grants, international collaborations, student supervision, and translational robotic systems for societal and industrial applications.

Research Interests: Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Autonomous Vehicles (AGVs/UGVs), Autonomous UAVs, Collaborative Robots (Cobots), Autonomous Space Rovers, Human–Robot Interaction, and AI-enabled Robotic Autonomy.
