I am a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Geology, UM. I currently teach undergraduate courses in Stratigraphy and Sedimentology. I am also Programme Coordinator for the Master of Petroleum Geoscience Programme, in which I teach topics in Reservoir Sedimentology and Sequence Stratigraphy. I frequently lead sedimentology, stratigraphy and petroleum geology fieldtrips to the Palaeozoic strata of NW Peninsular Malaysia and the hydrocarbon-bearing, Neogene strata of Sarawak and Labuan. I am also the Faculty advisor for the AAPG Student Chapter of UM and a Life Member of the Geological Society of Malaysia. I have been involved in the petroleum industry as an executive geoscientist at PETRONAS and as a consultant on several short-term sedimentology-related projects.
I am a clastic sedimentologist by training. My research interests in sedimentology mainly lies in the facies composition and stratal architecture of Neogene, hydrocarbon-bearing, coastal to marine facies of Borneo, with focus on their application in hydrocarbon reservoir characterization and management, and also their relation to the tectonic development of the region. My interests also include the facies analysis of deepwater deposits of Borneo. My work is mainly field-based, with field experience in Sarawak (Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu, Miri, Marudi, Limbang, Lawas), Labuan and Sabah.
I am also a worker on the stratigraphy of the Palaeozoic succession of NW Peninsular Malaya, specializing in the palaeontology and biostratigraphy of Devonian tentaculitoids and graptoloids. I am still very much interested in the stratigraphic development of the Palaeozoic basins of Peninsular Malaysia.
I received a PhD and DIC in Sedimentology from Imperial College, University of London, a MSc (with distinction) in Stratigraphy and a BSc in Geology from UM. I am a certified Professional Geologist (P.Geol.) with the Board of Geologists Malaysia.
