|Department of Pharmacology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya, 50603 Kuala Lumpur, MALAYSIA|
Lik-Voon Kiew obtained his Ph.D. degree in Biopolymer Technology and Therapeutics from the University of Malaya, Malaysia. His current research interests are in the development and in vitro/in vivo testing of anticancer nanotherapeutics and nano-drug-carriers for active and passive delivery of anticancer drugs and photoactive compounds to the tumour. He is also involved in the development of renal-targeting nano-drug-carriers for the delivery of reno-protective drugs, as well as in the in vivo evaluation of synthetic and bioactive compounds/materials for toxicity, physiology impact and disease treatment efficacy. He also assesses the acute and chronic impacts of intravenous administration of nano-drug-carriers and nanotherapeutics to the cardiovascular physiology of rats using radio-telemetry techniques.
Kiew is currently an Associate Professor and principle investigator of the Nanotherapeutics Laboratory, Department of Pharmacology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya, Malaysia. He has graduated seven PhD students and two MSc students; and is currently supervising three PhD students and one MSc students. He also serves as an external examiner for the pre-clinical professional examination (Pharmacology), Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) program, Quest International University Perak, Malaysia; an internal examiner for the Bachelor of Dental Surgery program and the Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS / UMMP) program, University of Malaya; and represent the Faculty of Medicine to coordinate the year 2 pharmacology teaching for the Bachelor of Dental Surgery program, Faculty of Dentistry, University of Malaya.
In the research community, Kiew serves as the vice president of The Malaysia Local Chapter of Controlled Release Society (MyCRS) and international committee of The Controlled Release Society (CRS), an editor for the Journal of Health and Translational Medicine, a guest editor for the Journal of Drug Delivery and Translational Research (2018), a scholarship panellist for the Human Life Advancement Foundation, a grant proposal reviewer for the Fundamental Research Grant Scheme, Ministry of Education, Malaysia, a visiting scientist to the Principe Felipe Research Centre, Valencia, Spain (2014), and a manuscript reviewer for Theranostics, Nanomedicine NBM, the Journal of Biomedical Nanotechnology, RSC Advances, International Journal of Nanomedicine, Biomedicine & Pharmacotherapy, Journal of Materials Chemistry B and BMC Nephrology.
