ASSOCIATE PROF. DR. KATHREENA BINTI MASNAH @ KADIR

Dr Kathreena Kadir  BDS(Mal), MClinDent(OMFS)(Mal), Fellowship in Oral & Maxillofacial Oncology and Reconstructive Surgery (Shanghai), AM   Dr Kathreena Kadir obtained her Bachelor of Dental Surgery from University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur in 2005. She then served the Ministry of Health for four years before returning to the same university to pursue her Master’s in Clinical Dentistry specializing in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. Upon graduation in 2013, she joined the academia and currently an Associate Professor and consultant in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Clinical Sciences. She is a member of Malaysia Academy of Medicine and has held the post of Honorary Secretary for the Malaysian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (MAOMS) in the year 2015 till 2018 and a member of the Oral Cancer Research & Coordinating Centre (OCRCC) since 2015. Her main surgical interest has always been managing patients with head and neck tumours and had recently completed her one-year Fellowship in Oral & Maxillofacial Oncology and Reconstructive Surgery at Shanghai 9th People’s Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China. Upon returning, she is among the lead surgeon in managing oral cancer clinic and service in University Malaya Medical Centre. Dr Kadir had also supervised numerous postgraduate research thesis in the field of both oral cancer and Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD). While pursuing her interest in head and neck oncology, Dr Kadir has also developed another passion in management of patients with TMD. Over the last 5 years, her team had successfully developed and validated the Malay - Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders (M-DC/TMD) according to the stringent standard set by the International Network for Orofacial pain & Related disorders Methodology (INfORM). With the establishment of these two instruments (DC/TMD and M-DC/TMD), she hopes to propose the usage of these tools nationwide as a standard protocol in diagnosing and managing patients with TMD. She also contributes in coordinating and pioneering the development of the TMD Multidisciplinary Team combined clinic in Faculty of Dentistry, Universiti Malaya.

PROF. DR. TUNKU KAMARUL ZAMAN BIN TUNKU ZAINOL ABIDIN

Tunku Kamarul Zaman (or Prof. TK as he is commonly known) is The Professor of Orthopaedics & Regenerative Medicine in University of Malaya (UM) with special interest in upper limb and microsurgery. He is considered the nation’s foremost expert in musculoskeletal basic sciences and research related to Orthopaedic Regenerative Medicine.  He obtained his medical degree (M.D.) from the National University of Malaysia (UKM) in 1998. He entered the Masters of Orthopaedics speciality training program i.e. M.S.(Ortho), in UM (2000) and was later inducted as a lecturer in the same university upon completing his training in 2004. He also obtained a diploma in tissue banking from National University of Singapore in 2003 during his surgical training. Upon completing his sub-speciality rotations locally, he was awarded a national scholarship to pursue his sub-specialty training in the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen hospitals from 2006 till 2010. During that period, he also obtained a PhD degree from The University of Liverpool. He is an accomplished academician and researcher; with over 220 peer-reviewed articles in many impact factored journals and has been invited to present the research groups' discoveries in numerous international scientific meetings (Citations: >7,600; H-index=50). He founded and still heads the tissue engineering group, a division under The National Orthopaedic Centre for Research and Learning (NOCERAL), supervising around 25 research students at any given time. In addition to doing clinical work and research, he is also heavily involved in administrative duties. His is at present the Executive Director for UM’s Center for Continuous Education (UMCCED), appointed since October 2024. His previous executive administrative duties include being the Director (CEO) of University of Malaya Medical Centre (2015-2020), Deputy dean of research for faculty of medicine (2012-2014), Acting dean for faculty of medicine (2014), Deputy director (clinical) for UMMC (2014-2015), and Director for the Clinical Investigative Centre in UMMC (an internationally award winning centre that conducts over 200 clinical trials a year; 2013-2014). He was also head-hunted to develop Universiti Sains Malaysia’s Bertam Campus in Penang, and established USM Medical Center there during his secondment (2021-2024). Other notable previous appointments include the Chairman of the Public University Hospital Consortium (KHUAM) and advisor on matters relating to the Healthcare for the Ministry of Higher Education (2018-2021). Prof. TK shares his experience and expertise by being a member of several Executive Boards in private university hospitals and international societies. He sits in many national level committees, national research grant review committee, a member of many international societies, have been invited to speak in several academic subjects in many international meetings and, a reviewer and editor/editor-in-chief to a number of academic journals. Due to his vast experience in various areas, he is a recognized trainer for not only Orthopaedics and Research, but also in management, leadership and strategic planning. As an academician, Prof. TK has held the title of Professor from University of Malaya since 2011 at the age of 38. He is/has been nominated and appointed as adjunct and honorary professors in several local and international universities; as well as council members and expert panellist in several organizations such as the prestigious Academy of Science in Malaysia and other Government agencies.

DR. JULIAN WONG JOON IP

Dr. Julian Wong Joon Ip is a psychiatrist and medical lecturer with the Department of Psychological Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya. He graduated with Honours in Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) (Hons) from Monash University and later obtained his Master of Psychological Medicine (MPsy.Med.) from Universiti Malaya. Dr. Wong is actively engaged in undergraduate and postgraduate education, clinical practice, and academic research. He serves as a practicing psychiatrist at Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC), providing comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care. His clinical interests include psychiatric comorbidities, with a particular emphasis on consultation-liaison psychiatry, community-based mental health services, and psychotherapy. He is currently part of both the consultation-liaison psychiatry team and the Community Mental Health Services (CMHS) at UMMC. Dr. Wong is a certified Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) clinician, having completed a training program by Dr. Gregg Jacobs (University of Massachusetts Medical School). He has also completed Pre-Core Training in Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) under Dr. Samuel Cheng at Changi General Hospital and will soon begin a 3-year Core Training program in ISTDP as a subspecialty focus. He is also a certified TMS clinician, having completed the International Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Certification Course in London, organised by the Academy of Brain Stimulation. Dr. Wong actively promotes mental health literacy and wellness in the community. He frequently speaks at public forums, conferences, and symposia (locally, regionally, and internationally) to discuss latest evidence based clinical practices, promote mental wellness and improve mental health literacy in the community.
