PROF. DR. ZAMRI BIN ZAINAL ABIDIN

Prof Dr Zamri Zainal Abidin is a radio astronomy researcher who focuses on exploring the fundamental and applications of deep space astrophysics and solar astronomy sciences. He has been a physicist and lecturer at the Department of Physics, Universiti Malaya (UM) since 2005, when he immediately established the Radio Cosmology Research Lab Group in UM. He held the position of the Deputy Dean at the Faculty of Science in Universiti Malaya between 2017 and 2019. He was the Head of Department of Physics between 2022 and 2025. He was the acting Deputy Dean of Research at the Faculty of Science for August and September 2022. He is currently the director the National Centre of Particle Physics, since November 2024. In 2026, he has 7 ongoing PhD students and 11 ongoing masters students under his supervision. The total number of postgraduate students that have graduated under his supervision stands at 31 (13 PhD and 18 masters). Most recently, in 2026, he received a RM120k UM internal research fund that covers research in protection of radio astronomical data transmissions between observatories, hence his research also includes studies in cybersecurity and astronomy-related policies in Malaysia.
