Dr Zuraiza Zaini is a specialist in Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology and a member of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons in Oral Medicine. Her PhD was from King’s College London and Oral Medicine & Oral Pathology specialty training from University of Queensland. She is currently the Discipline Head of Oral Medicine/Oral Pathology and Coordinator of two laboratories, Research Diagnostic Laboratory and Oral Pathology Diagnostic Laboratory at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Malaya. She is a member of International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologists, an executive committee of Malaysian Association for Oral & Maxillofacial Diseases and a life member of Malaysian Society of Oral Microbiologist and Oral Immunologist. Zuraiza teaches Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology to bachelor and master students and has served as external examiner to local universities. Her research interests include oral potentially malignant disorders and oral cancer mainly directing towards early detection, prognosis and therapy which have been published in the international refereed journals. She supervises research activities that cover several aspects mucocutaneous diseases, bone histology and pathology and health-related quality of life. Under the wing of Oral Cancer Research and Coordinating Centre (OCRCC), Zuraiza involves in facilitating workshop to standardize dentists and students on early detection of oral cancer and organizing the Mouth Cancer Awareness Week, a yearly event aiming to increase public awareness on oral cancer in collaboration with Oral Health Division, Ministry of Health, Cancer Research Malaysia, as well as dental schools from public and private institutions.
