DR. ZULFIRDAUS BIN ZAKARIA

Dr. Zulfirdaus Zakaria is a Senior Lecturer at the Institute for Advanced Studies, Universiti Malaya, specializing in fuel cell and electrolyzer technologies. He earned his PhD in Fuel Cell Engineering from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 2018 under Prof. Ir. Dr. Siti Kartom Kamarudin. His doctoral work focused on developing polymer electrolyte membranes using polyvinyl alcohol and graphene oxide for micro direct ethanol fuel cells. Dr. Zulfirdaus previously served at Universiti Sains Malaysia and completed postdoctoral stints at UKM and UNITEN, contributing to research on DMFCs, DEFCs, IT-SOFCs, and AEM electrolyzers. His work emphasizes polymer membrane innovation, biopolymer integration, and nanomaterial synthesis for green hydrogen production. He has secured grants exceeding RM2 million and registered multiple intellectual properties with MyIPO, including a biodegradable DEFC membrane and a review writing module. With over 50 journal publications (including 24 Q1 and 15 Q2 papers), he is a frequent first author and reviewer for high-impact journals such as Applied Energy and Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews.
