CURRICULUM VITAE

ASSOCIATE PROF. DR. CHOO YEUN MUN

(NA)
Dr Choo is an Associate Professor of Chemistry at the University of Malaya, where she earned both her B.Sc. (Hons.) and Ph.D. in Chemistry. She has held research positions at the University of Mississippi, National Tsinghua University (Taiwan), IBM Almaden Research Center (USA), and the Institute for Molecular Science (Japan). Her research focuses on discovering bioactive compounds from Malaysia’s ethnomedicinal flora, integrating traditional knowledge with modern drug discovery tools. She applies phytochemical profiling, biological assays, and advanced spectroscopy, supported by computational methods such as molecular docking, pharmacophore modelling, network pharmacology, and DFT calculations. This approach has led to the identification of lead compounds for infectious diseases, cancer, and neuroinflammation, including SARS-CoV-2 inhibitors during the COVID-19 pandemic. She has worked extensively on diverse natural scaffolds, such as diterpenoids and manzamine alkaloids. Dr Choo has authored over 86 publications and holds an H-index of 24 (Web of Science). She also teaches organic and natural product chemistry and is dedicated to mentoring students in both research and academic excellence.
