Dr Wan Ahmad Hafiz graduated in July 2005 with an honest degree of MB, BCh, BAO from National University of Ireland, Galway. He was awarded the prestigious Dr Rory Comerford Prize for being the top Malaysian student in his class. He spent a total of 11 years in Ireland, including 5 full years of service as medical professional. He worked as a Registrar in Internal Medicine & Nephrology under the supervision of 2 Consultant Nephrologists at the main Dublin’s hospitals, namely St James’s Hospital and Adelaide & Meath Hospital, before heading back home in 2010 to join University Malaya as a senior lecturer. He now works as a Consultant in Nephrology & General Internal Medicine at University Malaya Medical Centre. He completed the Membership in Royal College of Physician of Ireland (MRCPI) examination on his first attempt in November 2007. He then subspecialized in the field of Nephrology and passed his Malaysian Society of Nephrology certified examination in June 2013. He is a life member of Malaysian Society of Nephrology (MSN) and Malaysian Society of Transplantation (MST). He had publications across multiple areas in Nephrology, including acute & chronic kidney disease, hypertension, dialysis and transplantation. He is currently working on genetic contribution in the outcome of renal transplantation in Malaysia. Apart from the above, he also has shown interest in acid-base & electrolyte disorders, kidney disease in pregnancy and religious issues affecting patients with kidney diseases. He has been invited to give presentations on these topics nationally.
