Dr Tan Kay Sin graduated from the University of Melbourne, Australia in 1993. He undertook basic internal medicine training at the Hammersmith Hospital in London, Royal Liverpool University Hospital and in Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom. He is dual certified in internal medicine and neurology, having obtained MRCP(UK) in 1997 and further subspecialty training in neurology. He joined as lecturer in 1999 and completed subspecialization in neurology, stroke and neurosonology with attachments in the United States, Hong Kong and Singapore. He was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2005, Associate Professor in 2007 and full Professor in 2011. He was also a Fulbright Scholar to the United States in 2002 and was Visiting Fellow to the National Stroke Research Institute, Melbourne, Australia under the Australia-Malaysia Institute Grant in 2008. He received the Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (Edinburgh) in 2007, Apart from a full time academic position, Dr Tan is also a consultant neurologist at the University of Malaya Specialist Centre and the University of Malaya Medical Centre. He is the immediate past President of the Malaysian Society of Neurosciences, a position he held from 2008 until 2010. In this leadership role, he has the additional role of organizing the annual scientific meeting for the Malaysian Society of Neurosciences.
