Prof. Dr. Surinderpal Kaur is the Dean of the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics at Universiti Malaya and a leading scholar in critical discourse studies and multimodality. Holding a PhD from Lancaster University, her research spans over three decades, focusing on discrimination, Islamophobia, migration, extremism, gender, and sexuality.  Her current research focuses on climate change communication and education. As Co-Chair of the UM Committee for Climate Change, she advises the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability and represents UM and Malaysia at UNFCCC. She is the SDG Champion for Climate Change for UM.  She is a Fellow at the Academy of Sciences Malaysia, and also Chair of the Malaysian Language Deans Council. She is pioneering efforts to establish a Digital Humanities Centre at FBL, serving as a national and ASEAN hub for language and digital innovation.
