Dr Lau Su Ee is a plant biotechnology researcher and research-management professional with more than 12 years of experience at Universiti Malaya. She has served as a Research Officer at the Centre for Research in Biotechnology for Agriculture (CEBAR) since 2013 and was appointed Executive Director of UM Agroforestry in February 2026, leading strategic initiatives in research, sustainability, stakeholder engagement and institutional development. Her expertise encompasses plant molecular biology, functional genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, genome editing and plant responses to abiotic stress. Her research focuses on the molecular and physiological mechanisms underlying crop resilience, particularly in banana and other economically important plants, with applications in sustainable agriculture, crop improvement and food security. She has published extensively in Web of Science-indexed journals, contributed to multidisciplinary national and international research projects, and supervised postgraduate students and industrial trainees. Dr Lau also has substantial experience in research-facility management, biosafety compliance, strategic data coordination and institutional administration. She serves as an Executive Council Member of the Malaysian Society for Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (MSMBB), Associate Editor of the Asia-Pacific Journal of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, and Editor of the MSMBB Newsletter. She holds a PhD in Molecular Biology and Genetic Engineering from Universiti Putra Malaysia.
