ASSOCIATE PROF. DR. SHEEBA NETTUKANDY CHENOLI

Associate Professor Dr Sheeba Chenoli is a meteorologist and climatologist at the Department of Geography, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Universiti Malaya (UM). She holds a PhD in Meteorology from UM, focusing on strong wind events over the Ross Ice Shelf, Antarctica. She also holds a Master of Technology (MTech) in Atmospheric Sciences, specialising in Numerical Weather Prediction, and a Master of Science (MSc) in Meteorology from Cochin University of Science and Technology, India, as well as a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Physics from the University of Calicut, India. Her research encompasses Antarctic meteorology, climate change, monsoon variability, and tropical–polar climate teleconnections. She has participated in several Antarctic expeditions, including fieldwork at Scott Base involving Automated Weather Station deployment and maintenance, and at Jang Bogo Station for SODAR installation and site inspection. Dr Chenoli is Chair of the Tropical Antarctic Teleconnections (TATE) International Expert Group under the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) and serves as Malaysia’s national representative to the SCAR Physical Sciences Scientific Group. She is also a Lead Author for Chapter 4 of the IPCC Seventh Assessment Report (AR7), Working Group I: The Physical Science Basis. At Universiti Malaya, she serves as Co-Chair of the UM Committee for Climate Change, advising the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability on  Malaysia’s engagement and participation in
