Dr. Sarinder is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, University of Malaya. She holds a Ph.D. in Bioinformatics and both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Computer Science from the same university. With over two decades of academic experience, she is actively involved in teaching, research, postgraduate supervision, and administration. Her teaching spans undergraduate and postgraduate courses in database systems, big data, and bioinformatics. She leads the Data Science & Bioinformatics Laboratory at UM, collaborating with local and international institutions, including UMMC, Monash University, University of Cambridge and University of Saskatchewan. Her research focuses on analysing scientific databases, visual analytics, and data science.She is currently developing a Breast Cancer Digital Ecosystem at UMMC and working on bioinformatics frameworks for the discovery of metastatic cancer treatments. Dr. Sarinder serves on editorial boards for BMC Bioinformatics, BMC Medical Informatics, and the Malaysian Journal of Science. She has chaired international workshops, been a visiting scholar at Cambridge, and held academic assessor roles with MQA.She serves as the Treasurer of APBioNet and is a consultant on AI projects. She is now involved in a Healthcare Data Safe Haven project under UM’s AI in Medicine Initiative.
