ASSOCIATE PROF. DR. SAHARUDDIN BIN MOHAMAD

(Functional System Engineering)
Dr. Saharuddin bin Mohamad is a bioinformatician and academic at the Institute of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Science, Universiti Malaya, specializing in structural bioinformatics, molecular bioinformatics, and AI-driven analysis of biological data. He obtained his Bachelor of Engineering, Master of Engineering, and Doctor of Engineering degrees from Tokushima University, Japan, followed by postdoctoral training in bioinformatics at the Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST), Japan. His research encompasses computer-aided drug design, protein enigineering, next-generation sequencing (NGS) data analysis, genomics, metagenomics, transcriptomics, and translational bioinformatics, with current interests in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data mining for precision medicine and biomarker discovery. He has held several academic leadership positions at Universiti Malaya, including Head of the Institute of Biological Sciences and Programme Coordinator for the Bachelor of Science (Bioinformatics) programme. He currently serves as the Head of the Centre of Research in Systems Biology, Structural Bioinformatics and Human Digital Imaging (CRYSTAL), Universiti Malaya.
