PROF. DR. SAHARUDDIN BIN MOHAMAD

(Functional System Engineering)
Saharuddin bin Mohamad is a bioinformatician and academic at the Institute of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Science, Universiti Malaya, with expertise in structural bioinformatics, molecular bioinformatics, translational bioinformatics, and artificial intelligence for biomedical research. He received his Bachelor of Engineering, Master of Engineering, and Doctor of Engineering degrees from Tokushima University, Japan, and completed postdoctoral training in bioinformatics at the Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST), Japan. His research focuses on computer-aided drug design, protein engineering, next-generation sequencing (NGS) data analysis, genomics, metagenomics, transcriptomics, and AI-driven approaches for precision medicine, biomarker discovery, and disease variant interpretation. He has held several academic leadership roles at Universiti Malaya, including Head of the Institute of Biological Sciences and Programme Coordinator of the Bachelor of Science in Bioinformatics. He currently serves as Head of the Centre of Research in Systems Biology, Structural Bioinformatics and Human Digital Imaging (CRYSTAL), where he leads interdisciplinary research in computational biology and precision medicine.
