Roshidah Hassan is an Associate Professor at the Department of Asian Languages. From 2018 to 2022, she served as the Deputy Dean (Undergraduate). Prior to that, she was the head of the Asian and European Languages Department. She graduated from University Malaya with a Bachelor of Arts in Malay Studies (Linguistics) in 1994, the University of La Rochelle in France with a Diploma in French Studies in 2000, the University of Poitiers in France with a Master of Teaching French as a Foreign Language in 2003, and the University of Malaya with a PhD (UM) in 2010. Her areas of expertise are language learning, phonology, and phonetics. She teaches French syntax, morphology, phonetics, and phonology. Her fields of research include language acquisition, ethnolinguistics, and phonetics and phonology. Her current research focuses on documenting the Orang Asli languages and how Malaysian pupils learn French sounds. She also conducts studies on the preservation of Portuguese Creole in Malacca.
