Dr. Raihana Abdul Wahab is a Senior Lecturer in the Islamic Astronomy Programme at the Academy of Islamic Studies, Universiti Malaya. She earned both her Bachelor’s degree in Shariah (Islamic Astronomy) and Ph.D. in Islamic Astronomy from Universiti Malaya. Her main research interest lies in Islamic Astronomy, particularly in observational studies. She has led several significant research projects, including the Sky Brightness Research for the Determination of Early Fajr Prayer Times and a JAKIM-funded Reevaluation of the Sun’s Altitude for Determining the Beginning of Fajr Prayer Times in Malaysia.The outcomes of her work were presented to JAKIM and the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs (MKI), leading to the nationwide revision of Fajr prayer times in 2019–2020. In addition, she received a UMCARES community research grant (2018–2020) for the project Bringing Astronomy Community to Educate People. Her current research focuses on The Application of Digital Imaging Techniques in Observing the Young Crescent Moon from the Perspective of Shariah and Astronomy. Dr. Raihana has published over 10 articles in local and international journals and currently serves as a member of the Perak State Falak Committee (since 2018) and an Islamic Astronomy Expert Panel for JAKIM (2024–2025).
