Prof. Dato’ Ir. Dr. Mohammed Rafiq is a Professor of Engineering currently serving at the Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Malaya. He has held the rank of Full Professor since 2014 and is an EAC Council Member of the Board of Engineers Malaysia since 2020. He was the pioneering Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, one of Asia’s largest engineering faculties with nearly 700 academics and 10,000 students. Through his “Business NOT as Usual” philosophy, he transformed the faculty during the COVID-19 pandemic by introducing global programmes such as the Distinguished Lecture Series and Captain of Industry, achieving international recognition and savings of nearly RM2 million. A renowned researcher listed among the World’s Top 2% Scientists by Stanford University, he founded the Medical Devices & Technology Group, later elevated to a Centre of Excellence. He has led 94 projects worth RM12 million, produced 344 Web of Science publications with nearly 8,000 citations, and holds a h-index of 48. Recognized as Malaysia’s No. 1 Inventor (2010–2014), he holds 38 granted patents and 18 pending. He is an alumnus of Imperial College London and the University of Cambridge, and is registered as a PEPC, ACPE, and CEng.
