Dr. Pg Ismail bin Pg Musa is a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Law at the University of Malaya since January 2022. He is from Kg Benoni Papar Sabah. Before joining the Faculty, he was a Deputy Shariah Prosecutor in the Jabatan Hal Ehwal Agama Islam Negeri Sabah (JHEAINS) since 2003. Apart from prosecuting Shariah offenders, he has also been appointed as "Peguam Syar'ie" to represent Majlis Ugama Islam Sabah (MUIS) in cases of applications for leaving Islam and confirmation of religious status in the Shariah Court in Sabah since 2012 until 2015. He has handled more than 300 cases of leaving Islam, confirmation of religious status, and confirmation og the religious status of the deceased in all Shariah Courts in Sabah. Although he has joined UM in 2022, he is still contributing to the state government of Sabah by being invited to meetings related to the drafting of sharia laws in Sabah and has been appointed as a member of the Sabah State Fatwa Muzakarah Committee 2024-2026. At the national level, he is also listed as a member of The National Islamic Legislative Committee For Public / Private Institutions Session 2022 – 2024, JAKIM. His research areas are the plural legal system in Sabah, especially the interaction between the native court and the Shariah Court in Sabah, the law of apostasy, the administration of Syariah criminal law and procedure in Malaysia, evidence law, and Islamic and Native family law. He has been invited several times to present papers and lectures at Indonesian universities such as Universitas Pancasila, Jakarta, and UIN Sunan Kalijaga, Yogyakarta
