Associate Professor Dr Peter Aning Tedong specialises in housing policy and governance, with a particular focus on vulnerable communities and the inequalities shaping their access to adequate housing, essential services, and urban opportunities. He joined the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at Universiti Malaya in December 2014 and currently serves as Deputy Dean (Undergraduate) at the Faculty of Built Environment. He is also an affiliated researcher at CUSRI, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand. Previously, he served as Head of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning (2023–2026) and Head of the Centre for Malaysian Indigenous Studies (2018–2023). His research connects housing with broader questions of sustainable cities, spatial equity, poverty, and community well-being. He examines how planning decisions, governance arrangements, and socioeconomic conditions influence the lives of low-income households, informal housing residents, Indigenous communities, older persons, refugees, stateless populations, and migrant workers. His work on elderly housing explores how housing environments and support systems can enable inclusive ageing in place. He has received numerous research grants from both the public and private sectors and has led several high-impact national and international projects. Notably, he served as Project Leader for the Family Wellbeing Index funded by the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN), with findings published in the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13).
